Property Description

Set within the charming, private estate of Kirnan House, in an AONB, these properties (SEEJ, SEEK and SGGI) offer ideal, peaceful holiday retreats. Surrounded by 605 acres of unspoilt woodland and 25 acres of garden, they are sympathetically renovated to the highest standard. Steeped in history, the estate was originally owned by the Dukes of Argyll and the gardens are recognised as the second finest on the west coast of Scotland. This is a haven for wildlife lovers, with red, sika and roe deer roaming freely, as well as pine martens, red squirrels and woodcock. Scottish wildcats are frequently seen in the glen and there are mating pairs of osprey on the River Add, with eagles regularly sighted. The woods contain the remains of an historic settlement, Kirnan Beg. Kirnan is an environmentally-friendly estate which aims to become self supporting, and can offer guests fresh eggs, vegetables, pork and lamb. Where possible, everything used on the estate is recycled. The estate is an ideal base for fishing, walking, stalking, shooting, cycling, sightseeing and horse riding. The owner’s RIB boat is available by separate arrangement and sea and loch fishing can be provided, as well as scenic tours of the coastline. Local attractions include excellent restaurants (especially seafood), museums, castles and the famous Crinan Canal. Under an hour from Oban, with day trips to the beautiful west coast islands, and closer ferries to Gigha and Jura. This is an important area historically, with the highest concentration of Neolithic monuments in Great Britain. Close to the famous Kilmartin Museum. Shops 4 miles, pub 2 miles.

Snug, cosy cottage. Living room with open fire. Kitchen. Double bedroom with 5ft bed. Shower room with toilet.

  1. I loved the location. Weather great. Owners very helpful, nice neighbouring folks too. Lovely doggy walks. An interesting area near a Boarding School and Music School. Oct 2012.

  3. Altogether a fabulous place to stay, especially if you have dogs. The owners are wonderfully helpful, a lovely estate and the free range eggs are gorgeous. Remote, but surrounded by things to do, great walking, outdoor activities, coast and fab landscape. July 2011.
  4. Lovely quiet cottage in a great location. Really enjoyed the sunny conservatory and roaring log fire. March 2011.
  5. An excellent.and very comfortable cottage, warm and cosy, and larger than it looks on the pictures, the owners are very friendly and the estate is wonderful, with fresh eggs for breakfast from the chickens just outside the door. March 2011.
  6. Top quality finish in all rooms. Excellent inter-action with the owners, who were available with help and information without being intrusive. Oct 2010.
  7. A lovely little cottage, perfect for two. Lovely linen and gorgeous soft towels provided. Excellent selection of crockery and cookware provided. Generous supply of logs for the fire and fresh eggs available. Sept 2010.
  8. Location superb for a remote get away & rambling through forest, but only 15 minutes from Lochgilphead for restaurants etc. Feb 2010.
  9. Needed a freshen up in the kitchen and bathroom, especially the bathroom, also the shower didn’t stay hot long enough for two showers. The poor for cleanliness pertains to the bathroom, rest of the cottage was fine. On arrival the fire was lit and there was wine, chocolates, milk, butter and bread to get us started - a lovely touch. Owners were very helpful. Dec 2009.
  10. Good size, cosy, well equipped, beautiful surroundings. Only complaints were the mattress was a back breaker and visibly lumpy and the shower wouldn’t stay hot for two showers no matter how quick you were! Otherwise the place was great. Nov 2009.
  11. Helpful owners and situated on a private estate with beautiful gardens. Oct 2009.
  12. The property is set in a beautiful area, but could do with a little DIY. Sept 2009.
  13. Small, but cosy and well-equipped, quiet secluded location in attractive gardens. Well placed for attractions of surrounding area. May 2009.
