Property Description

Standing detached in a very attractive large garden, this lovely thatched cottage dates back 400 years and offers spacious accommodation. Beautifully restored, the holiday cottage has retained many character features including beams and inglenooks, together with every modern day comfort and convenience. The location is ideal for touring and exploring (being close yet set back from a main road), and is positioned on The Ridgeway National Trail, accessing many wonderful tranquil miles of byways and footpaths across the Marlborough Downs and beyond. The pretty market town of Marlborough is just 4 miles away, with its half-timbered houses, handsome Georgian buildings and fine selection of individual shops, inns and restaurants in and around one of Europe’s widest high streets.
Within easy reach are the ancient sites of Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow, Avebury Stone Circle/village and several iron-age forts. On the downs are white horses, ancient routes and the country’s main area for the appearance of mysterious crop-circles. Beautiful Saversnake Forest and the Kennet and Avon Canal are just minutes away. Just a short drive to the north are the Cotswolds, to the west is beautiful Bath with its pale gold architecture, to the east is Hungerford with its many antique shops, and to the south is the cathedral city of Salisbury as well as Stonehenge. Golf available locally. Shops 4 miles.

Spacious beamed living room with gas ‘coal-effect’ fire and inglenook. Dining room with inglenook. Large, well-equipped country-style kitchen with spacious family and breakfast area, Esse electric oven, double Belfast sink and terracotta floor. Utility. Study. Shower room with toilet. Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. The cottage was wonderful. Had everything for our needs as we were using it as a 2nd home as our was being renovated. The kitchen was very spaciuos which is great for big family dinners, and the kids loved the tv in every room, and huge selection of dvds. We were there on a rainy week so it was lovely to be able to keep them quiet in their own space. The house was close to towns in any direction, Hungerford, Swindon, Newbury and to our riding stables for the girls. Will go back if our house is still got builders in the Xmas peroid, close enough to london to escape for a few days and feel the peace of the countryside. Oct 2011.
  2. This is a fantastic, picture-book cottage. It is lovingly maintained and packed with thoughtful features and utensils. Perfect for all weathers. June 2011.
  3. A lovely cottage with pretty garden although not quite as big as the picture implies. It is next to a road but is very enclosed so not a problem except a bit noisy in the garden. The cottage has absolutely everything you could need! The location is also excellent and we were able to cycle straight from the cottage. April 2011.
  4. Lovely layout, fabulous kitchen. Dec 2010.
  5. Huge kitchen, cosy sitting room. Dec 2010.
  6. Spacious and warm. Dec 2010.
  7. Fantastic property owned by lovely couple and we had an amazing weekend away. Your company gave us exactly what we were after and we had no problems at all. Would wholeheartedly recommend. Nov 2010.
  8. Excellent decor, huge space, gorgeous kitchen. Sept 2010.
  9. The charm of living in a thatched cottage and the location. Sept 2010.
  10. The house is even nicer than it looks in the pictures. The garden is completely secure which is great for small children. There is a fantastically stocked DVD library with tons of films. The kitchen is huge and the whole place is very well furnished. I would certainly recommend it - the area is not too exciting but there’s Avebury and Marlborough. The house is on a main road but to be honest we didn’t feel like it because you’re close away behind high gates and walls. Only downside is that you can’t do BBQs because its thatched, but its easy enough to cook in the kitchen and transport fod a few feet to the lovely eating area outside. May 2010.
  11. Very child and toddler friendly and excellent facilities. April 2010.
  12. Spacious but homely. Tastefully decorated. Oct 2009.
  13. Great cottage, good layout and lots of room. June 2009.
  14. The lovely house was perfectly located for day trips to London, Oxford, Bath, Salisbury, Winchester, et al. Moreover, it was well-appointed, cosy and had an abundant supply of hot water. We could not have asked for more! Feb 2008.
  15. The accommodation was excellent - especially the huge, and extremely well-equipped, kitchen which meant that all our party of eight adults and three (under one) children could spend all our time together without feeling in each other’s way and not missing out on anything that was going on. The availability and quality of the bathrooms was another plus. Had the weather been better we would have used the garden more but our w/e break was not spoiled. Sept 2008.
  16. The cottage is very fully equipped, has a spacious feel and is extremely well supplied with information on local walks and places of interest. We were initially concerned about how busy the main road is but the noise was not a nuisance even sitting out in the garden. May 2008.
  17. The owners were extremely helpful. A BBQ was not available at the cottage but the owners organised a platform for us to stand some disposable bbq’s on. This was a very nice touch and very helpful. April 2007.
