Property Description

In a secluded and tranquil location, with stunning views of Loch Riddon in the Kyles of Bute, this spacious, modernised holiday cottage which meets with an exacting four-star standard, stands in mature, landscaped gardens with its own private beach, two moorings, a reinforced grass slipway, sea views from most rooms and several acres of woodland just north of the village of Colintraive - which faces Bute, the most accessible of the Western Isles. Just 40 miles from Glasgow airport, Tigh-na-Creige is the perfect place to fall off the world. The deep glens and narrow sea lochs are typical of the west coast and there is a huge selection of Scottish wildlife - including deer, seals and birds of prey. The nearby villages of Colintraive and Tighnabruaich lie in the heart of west coast sailing country. The Cowal Gathering, the world’s biggest Highland Games, is held in nearby Dunoon – which also has a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. And the beautiful isles of Bute and Arran are easily accessed by ferry or visitors’ own boats. Rothesay on Bute is only 12 miles and offers alternative shops, restaurants and bars as well as visitor attractions, including the renowned Mount Stuart; while Loch Lomond National park is just 15 miles - adding to the cottage’s appeal for walkers and cyclists of all abilities - and boasting breathtaking scenery with dramatic peaks, waterfalls, hidden caves and mysterious forests. However, easy loch-side walks start right outside the door. The nearby scenic viewing platform overlooking the Kyles is renowned as one of the most picturesque in Scotland - and many of the local beaches match this description. The immediate area is packed with more challenging leisure activities - with horse riding, a sailing school, climbing, quad biking, high-speed RIB boat tours, golf and outdoor education centres. Nearby, the magnificent mountainside setting of Benmore Botanic Gardens (Mar-Oct) is well worth a visit. The world famous Loch Fyne is just around the corner, with Portavadie, its amazing marina and the ferry connection to the beautiful fishing port, West Loch Tarbert, a gentle 30-minute drive away. Shop, pub/restaurant 2½ miles.

Accommodation on one level. Entrance porch with five steps to the garden (with six steps from the drive to the house). Oak laminate flooring throughout. Large living room with open fire. Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. The property was absolutely outstanding. The location was perfect with breathtaking views over the lock, the accommodation was very well equipped and although the weather was wonderful for about 80% of the time, there is an inevitable chill in the air in October and the real fire was great. The Colintraive Hotel is approximately two and a half miles away and we were regulars; the staff are friendly and welcoming and the food is amazing. We also visited the sculpture park just along the coast road from the cottage and would recommend this interesting and tranquil place. We will definitely be back. Oct 2012.
  2. Beautiful location. House was comfortable yet stylish. Had everything we needed or wanted. We will definitely come back. The best rented property we’ve ever had in Scotland. July 2012.
  3. The house worked really well for an extended family group of eight. We enjoyed the characterful dining area at the centre of the house with its view over the loch. Sept 2010.
  4. Really really lovely, we all had super time, excellent. Sept 2010.
  5. The photographs in the brochure were fantastic but we felt they didnt do the property justice - the property was more than we could have wanted with everything we needed. May 2010.
  6. Excellent property, all mod cons, beautiful views, peaceful. Had a lovely family Christmas holiday here. Dec 2009.
  7. The view from the cottage was wonderful - so peaceful and relaxing. Oct 2009.
  8. The situation of the property offers supurb views of the idyllic location. Oct 2009.
  9. It was very well equipped - presumably because the owners used it themselves ie it was not just a basic rent for income property. June 2009.
  10. Very modern and clean. July 2009.
  11. We loved the smell of the garden roses in front of the house. The rear outside table and chairs were sited in a real sun trap. June 2009.
  12. Accommodation over and above what we expected; every detail catered for; all home comforts thought of. May 2009.
  13. The property was beautifully presented with a very high standard throughout. The area was beautiful, safe, peaceful and ideal for the holiday we were looking for. We even managed the 5 mile round walk to Colintraive just to get chocolate from the local shop!! March 2009.
  14. Excellent accommodation, wonderful aspect and surroundings. Beautifully maintained. A joy to spend time in. Feb 2009.
  15. The cottage, weather etc were better than we could have imagined. We will go again. Nov 2008.
