Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Owners very friendly and helpful without being intrusive; cottage excellent- the coal fire was a winner. Superb position for dog friendly holiday. Oct 2012.
  2. It was our second stay at The White Cottage and it is our intention to make it a third next year.We were welcomed on our arrival by a lovely coal fire and the owners who live in the adjoining house are very low key andthe only time you see them is if you have a query, and they are very helpful. Oct 2012.
  3. Good location, peaceful and relaxing surroundings. The owners are very nice, helpful and welcoming. The coal fire is lovely and was well used by us. Nice walks along the towpath and the local pubs provide good food and welcoming atmosphere for the dogs as well as the owners. Sept 2012.
  4. We planned an easy relaxing holiday with our family dog. We found plenty of walks and a very handy pub in the village (Soldier Dick) where Rhea (dog) was made welcome and the meals were very good and reasonably priced. May 2012.
  5. It was quiet, despite being near a railway line, and a good place to stay with a dog. Plenty of off-road parking. Warm welcome with a real fire burning and access to plenty of coal. March 2012.
  6. This cottage is in a brilliant location overlooking the canal. Both us and the dogs loved sitting in the big window in the kitchen with a cup of tea watching the barges, ducks, people and dogs go past! There are a couple of friendly pubs within a couple of hundred yards and quite a few dog-friendly pubs nearby. This is a great part of the peak district to explore with the Goyt valley close by (lovely walks around the reservoirs there) and also Lyme Park for those who enjoy National Trust properties (we did a nice walk around the estate). The cottage was warm (something I find important as I tend to feel the cold!) and cosy and the garden was properly enclosed. It was just right for us and the dogs - all in all a great holiday! March 2012.
  7. We found the entire experience very enjoyable, and would highly recommend it. Sept 2011.
  8. Owner living at adjoining property was very helpful without being interferring. The log fires nightly were really cosy. The owner was able to advise where good places would be to visit when we asked her. The only reason we would probably not stay here again is because we like to go to different locations every time we take a holiday. However, if we ever needed to re-visit the area (we were family history hunting) we would definitely consider staying here. June 2011.
  9. This cottage is a good base for exploring the Peak District. The Cantonese Restaurant and the Fish & Chip shop nearby are both excellent. The railway station is also close allowing rail trips to Buxton and Manchester. The cottage is also next to the canal so there are good walks along the canal tow path and lots of canal boats to see. May 2011.
  10. Comfortable, peaceful and welcoming cottage - and there were 2 pubs within walking distance that welcomed dogs and have great food. March 2011.
  11. This does not pretend to be luxurious, more easy living with a dog which is why we chose it - for this it was ideal. Feb 2011.
  12. Location on the canal. Dec 2010.
  13. The location alongside the canal. Cosy and comfortable, especially the open fire. Very dog friendly. Oct 2010.
  14. The cottage was very well furnished and the owner had lit the coal fire for our arrival on a very cold windy and wet Friday evening. It was lovely to enter such a warm welcoming cottage. The position of the cottage by the canal towpath was lovely. Nov 2010.
  15. Comfortable cottage with private area. Nice open fire and different aspect of having kitchen upstairs to see the canal boats pass. Aug 2010.
  16. The property was in an ideal area for walking. There were towns close by the owner was next door which was all so helpful and it was very dog friendly which is why I picked it. July 2010.
  17. Location, accommodation and facilities excellent. June 2010.
  18. Nearness to the canal. April 2010.
  19. Right next to canal, good walks in area. April 2010.
  20. Position next to canal/ Lovely coal fire/ friendly and helpful owner. March 2010.
