Property Description

With views across open countryside from 2 acres of pretty lawned gardens, Gwedna Barns is set in a secluded, wooded, rural spot, on a non-working farm and situated within a World Heritage site. Gwedna Barns consists of four holiday properties with their own garden areas and seating and the use of a children’s play area. The Long Barn (GLP) brims with character and charm, with a split-level living arrangement and cosy open kitchen with a lofty beamed ceiling. The Stable (TE1) has an open-plan living area which has been designed to take in the full height of the building with an exposed beamed ceiling, a wood-burning stove and French doors leading to its own garden with extensive countryside views. Swallows Barn (TE2) successfully blends contemporary facilities with a classic, Cornish granite facade. The property has its own garden with far-reaching views from the seating area and an open-plan living space with a raised living room and door to the garden. Billy’s Barn (TE3) was formerly the goat house and has exposed stone walls with a comfortable living room and traditional wood-burning stove for cosy evenings. With large doors to the front of the property letting light into the dining room, there is a further kitchen area with two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor. The properties are close to the attractive village of Godolphin Cross in the beautiful Cornish countryside. The nearby Goldolphin House (NT) is steeped in Cornwall’s mining history and is one of the country’s most significant houses. The south west of Cornwall provides some of the best surfing, fishing and coastal walking in England. Gwedna Barns’ peaceful location provides easy access to the area’s beaches and coves. The sweeping sands of Gwithian are a 15-minute drive to the north, whilst Prussia Cove, with its caves, tales of smuggling and crystal clear water, lies 5 miles to the south. Penzance, The Lizard and St Ives are all within a 20-minute drive. The old market town of Helston, with its elegant Georgian town houses, is nearby, and the main A30, just a short drive away, provides access to the whole of west Cornwall. Enjoy the surf culture, attractive countryside, stunning coast scenes, history and art; all to be found in south west Cornwall. Horse riding 3½ miles, golf 4½ miles. Shop/P.O. 1½ miles, pub 1 mile. Note: Properties TE1, TE2 and GLP can be booked together to sleep 16 people. Personalised stocking and complimentary hamper for Christmas and New Year bookings for properties TE1, TE2 and GLP.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. The Stable’ is a comfortable, well presented cottage, with beautiful views from the lounge across rolling countryside. It is very peaceful and a great place to relax in. Pleased we chose ’The Stable’ from those on offer. Good position enabling us to see everything on offer in relatively short travelling times. June 2012.
  2. I wrote in the visitors book at the property that "it was our third visit to the Stable and we hope it won’t be the last, that should speak for itself". May 2012.
  3. Lovely quiet, comfortable cottage. Would like to return. May 2012.
  4. This is a comfortable, well equipped spacious property in a lovely rural location. It enjoys easy access to both the north and south coasts as well as to the Lizard and Land’s End. We have returned here for five years and always relish the peace and comfort we find here. We enjoy going to Porthleven to visit the Ship Inn and dining at Kota restaurant. We always make one visit to Ann’s pasty shop on the Lizard, and this year we visited the lighthouse there for the first time which was really interesting and gave stunning views across the headland. June 2011.
  5. A perfect cottage for the whole family, with many features from the original barn, but all the modern comfort (including baby cot and highchair), and perfectly clean. The children loved the toys and children books we enjoyed the dvd library and the calm of the countryside around. The location is ideal for St-Ives, the Lizard Peninsula, Falmouth and the beautiful beaches (Praa Sands is wonderful especially for the children - and only 15 minutes away). A very great family holiday in a gorgeous cottage. May 2011.
  6. Very friendly welcome from the owners. Lovely location, warm and comfortable and will be returning again. Would suggest take additional towels, and remember there is no local shop, but there is good facilities only 6 miles away at Hayle, i.e. very good Marks & Spencers food store. May 2011.
  7. My daughter and I have been to Cornwall each spring for the last 9 years but last year was the first time we self-catered and considered ourselves very lucky to find The Stable. Its been converted to a very high standard and has lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Unfortunately, on a personal level, I was very seriously ill last summer for many months and only gradually regained my health but getting back to this lovely place this year was my spur, we greatly enjoyed it although on a somewhat limited scale. May 2011.
  8. A beautifully converted barn with lovely views over the countryside. Sept 2010.
  9. Spacious, light, good views, quiet. July 2010.
  10. Very comfortable. Family friendly living space. July 2010.
  11. The owners were very friendly and helpful, and our son loved the toy train set provided (and the tractors working in the field behind the cottage!). The second bedroom was a good size so we could fit the travel cot in. July 2010.
  12. The property is spacious, light and airy. The main living area has been arranged in such a way that you can enjoy the great views out across the valley. We also enjoy the fact that a lot of the original features of the building (the granite blocks used in its construction) have been retained and blended in with internal decoration. July 2010.
  13. Beautifully presented and in lovely location. May 2010.
  14. It was conveniently situated in Cornwall for the things we wanted to do. May 2010.
  15. We liked everything. I really didn’t want to leave. It was clean, had loads of character, quiet if you don’t mind pheasants and only a few miles away from so many places to visit. We will be going back. April 2010.
  16. Clean, bright, quiet with wonderful countryside views. Aug 2009.
  17. The cottage views were stunning very peaceful although not to far from the B road so getting to places of interest was easy. The owners were really lovely very helpful and very friendly. May 2009.
  18. The accommodation was surprisingly better than we expected. The fact it was off the main road made it a great place for my daughter to play, without me constantly checking where she was and if she was safe. Aug 2007.
