Property Description

This very spacious, detached property, converted from a 200-year-old barn, with grain silos 8 yards (toddlers beware!) occupies a peaceful setting on the owners’ 850-acre working arable farm and pheasant shooting estate. Very attractively furnished and well equipped, it boasts eight en-suite bedrooms (all with colour TVs), two sitting-rooms, a games room with open fire and pool table, and its own garden with children’s play area – making it the ideal choice for three or four families wishing to holiday together. Clay pigeon shooting is available by arrangement, with fishing on site (permit required). The farm is centrally located in the beautiful Camel Valley – a haven for nature lovers and fishermen, cyclists and riding enthusiasts, close to the wild expanse of Bodmin Moor.
An ideal base from which to tour, The Shooting Lodge is convenient for the North and South Heritage Coasts of Cornwall, where to the north, the picturesque fishing villages of Port Isaac and Boscastle, and the old port of Padstow are within easy reach. To the south is the harbour town of Fowey, and the charming villages of Looe and Polperro, each with narrow, winding streets full of fisherman’s cottages and intriguing tales concerning their smuggling past. Partly isolated from the rest of the country, until the railway crossed the River Tamar in the 1860s, this region has retained a wealth of antiquities. For historic days out, St Breock Downs Monolith and the Nine Maidens, Pencarrow House and Restormel Castle, and Lanhydrock (NT), with its 450-acre grounds, are nearby. Whilst a little further afield, scholars of myths and legends will find enigmatic Tintagel Castle – said to be the birthplace of King Arthur, a mystical delight. Ancient Wadebridge (4 miles) offers a sports centre, swimming-pool and tennis. Shop 1½ miles, pub 3 miles.

Large hall with slate floor. Spacious, comfortable living room with open fire and dining area. Additional sitting room with open fire. Large, well-equipped fitted kitchen with two electric cookers. Utility. Separate toilet. First floor: Three double bedrooms, each with en-suite shower room and toilet. Three twin bedrooms, and two further double bedrooms (one with extra double bed, for +2), each with en-suite bathroom, shower attachment and toilet. All bedrooms with TVs.

  7. This property was better than one could imagine. We went as a family group and nobody could fault the accommodation. We ate in every night and the kitchen was equipped to cater for all eventualities. Every bedroom was comfortable, clean and cosy. The children in the group felt safe and had plenty to do. The owners were on hand for any problems which were dealt with quickly. The owners took the children out on quad bikes and took a party out in a landrover through the woods and down to the river camel. We all loved our stay here and would use this property again. May 2010.
  8. The size of the property, location, facilities, everything was spot on. April 2010.
  9. Good quality fixtures and fittings. Plenty of space for all 15 of us. Kitchen properly equipped for a large party. Good heating and hot water. The property was advertised as having 4 double bedrooms - however the double beds were small, one was only a 4 foot bed, luckily we had a single person in that room - the other beds were about 4’ 3" - this is about our only problem with the house. April 2010.
  10. Fantastic property. Kitchen very well equipped with large fridges etc. Facilities all that you need and more. Lovely large rooms, and well maintained. Bedrooms nice clean and tidy. Great grounds to wonder around too. A fire pit and BBQ outside and plenty of parking makes for an easy and great holiday. We took up the shooting and found it great. The owners are friendly, helpful and could not do enough to make us all welcome. Thank you! Sept 2009.
  11. Excellent house ideal for large groups of friends or family. Accommodation has everything you can think of and more. Oct 2008.
  12. The owners were very welcoming and friendly. Aug 2008.
  13. Wonderful dining table perfect for large family/group meals in the atmospheric/homely dining room. Sept 2007.
  14. The warmth of welcome and bedroom accommodation was better than we have ever experienced. Oct 2007.
  15. Alexy and the rest of the family at The Shooting Lodge made us feel very welcome; they were very hospitable, helpful, and provided the framework for a lovely holiday. Simply excellent. June 2008.
  16. We did not find this property via the conventional channels - instead we had relatives who came over from the USA back in June to stay at The Shooting Lodge and we fell in love with the place! Our stay at the lodge was extra special as our family and friends came down to stay for our wedding. The feedback we received from our wedding guests was incredible - the owners were particularly wonderful and nothing was too much trouble and the children were well entertained. The games room and playground are a great idea. The bedrooms were all beautiful with fresh white bedding, nicely decorated and so nice to have en-suite in every room! The dining room is a wonderful area for a gathering and the the ‘den’ TV room is so relaxing! All in all it is a top class property and we cannot say enough about the wonderful stay we had there. We hope to come back at some point in the near future! Sept 2007.
  17. Loved The Shooting Lodge - it was very good. July 2007.
  18. This was an excellent property, we went as a party of 14, the accommodation was first class and the bedrooms were wonderful. All decoration throughout was to a high standard and the location was central to everything in Cornwall. We liked it so much as a group we are about to book up again for the same place! Sept 2007.
