Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Great place to base yourself to tour both north Cornwall and Devon. July 2012.
  2. The owners made us most welcome on our arrival with a cream tea. The property is perfect for a couple only or a couple with 1 or 2 children. The property is surprisingly spacious and beautifully finished and is close to Bude and the best parts of the north Cornwall coast. Dec 2011.
  3. The Shippen is a small bungalow type building next to the owners main home situated in tiny Gooseham just into Cornwall. The property is really beautiful with all the comforts of home and fitted with all appliances you will need. Gooseham has no pub etc however there are a couple nearby which means either a two mile walk or drive. It is worth the walk as you get views over the Ocean and stunning scenery. The welcome to the Shippen could not have been more friendly with a cream tea waiting and even a bottle of wine for the evening. The owners make sure you feel very welcome and provide local knowledge and advice. Nothing seemed too much bother. Nearby are some great beaches including Sandymouth ( watch the tides coming in ) and the stunning Duckpool. There are plenty of other places to visit nearby should you not want the beach. We tried the Gooseham Riding stables for an hours ride which was probably the highlight of the holiday. Really fun and excellent staff. Make sure that you do not run out of essentials as nearest shop is about 4 miles away and closes at 8pm. The pizza restaurant in nearby Kirkhampton is really good with super staff and varies menu. I did not like the pub opposite who seemed to just want to serve local people and ignore occasional visitors like ourselves. The garden at The Shippen is fantastic and the owners allow you full use. Really , really recommend the Shippen. Aug 2011.
  4. The house was quite wonderful - the owners were very welcoming and explained where every thing was and how it worked - we could have lived there forever. Aug 2010.
  5. The owners are on site but unobtrusive. They helped us with tour recommendations and supplied our two young children with their own grandchildren’s toys for use during our stay. July 2010.
  6. Nicely decorated adequately equipped friendly welcome. Lots of useful advice about local attractions and places to eat. Very close to riding stables. July 2010.
  7. Easy lay out and very clean and the owners (with all the special touches) exceptional. A nice quiet retreat. July 2010.
  8. A well converted cow shed with everything on one level. April 2010.
  9. Beautifully furnished, was ok for small children ours being 6 and 3, owners very pleasant and helpful. April 2010.
  10. Our hosts couldn’t have made us feel more welcome. It was a lovely property. Aug 2009.
  11. Furnishings and equipment were all of good quality. Decoration was tasteful combining modern with traditional very well. July 2009.
  12. Welcomed with a cream tea and a bottle of wine. The owners lit us the woodburning stove and produced all the extra fuel.We found the underfloor heating excellent when the weather was rather disappointing.Andy and Pam went out of the way to make our stay enjoyable. April 2009
  13. A very attractive and well presented property. Would be happy to book it again. July 2007.
  14. Property owners very warm, welcoming and helpful. Some very nice touches on arrival and in the attention to detail. June 2008.
  15. Our holiday was just great, the Shippen is a wonderful cottage and the owners are very friendly and kind, we will go back there soon I hope. Sept 2008.
  16. A great base for lots to do all around, great beaches and fabulous cottage with first class owners. May 2007.
  17. The Shippen is a beautiful property and the owners extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. I’d recommend the Shippen to anyone. April 2007.
