Property Description

Nestling in a rural location on the edge of Castle Hedingham and situated on a working farm, this spacious, renovated, detached cart lodge, adjacent to the owner’s farmhouse, commands far reaching views over a valley towards Hedingham Castle. Guests have their own garden area and use of the owner’s garden and extensive grounds. Castle Hedingham lies in the valley of the River Colne on the ancient road between Colchester, 20 miles, and Cambridge, 30 miles. Places of interest include the Colne Valley Steam Railway and the market town of Sudbury, 7 miles. Shop and pub ½ mile.

Ramp to entrance. Spacious beamed open plan living/dining room with French doors, kitchen area and tiled floor. Beamed double bedroom with 5ft four-poster bed, TV and en-suite shower room with toilet. Single bedroom with additional pull-out bed (for +1) and en-suite wet room with toilet. First floor: Single bedroom.

The view is unbelievable and even though the weather was very poor during our holiday we were as warm and comfortable as we are at home. The location was ideal with wonderful views and in walking distance of the village (across the fields) to good eating houses. The owners were helpful but not intrusive.   7. The cottage has a superb view of the Castle, which is worth visiting! Our host treated us to vegetables from their garden, they are wonderful people. We visited Lavenham and Long Melford with our children (15,12,9) and had a great evening at Castle Hedingham’s pub (Quiz night). Overseas visitors: bring enough cash because your regular cards won’t work in the cash machines. July 2011.
  8. Warm welcome from the cottage owner who was helpful but not intrusive throughout our break. A walk down the owner’s field and a short footpath brings you out to the village where we had excellent food in the "Bell Pub". The cottage is within easy driving distance of Cambridge, Bury st Edmunds, Colchester and Thetford all of which we visited. The cottage views are lovely and walks are plentiful. This is a location to be enjoyed in fine weather by adults and children alike. May 2011.
  9. The cottage is lovely, really nicely furnished and decorated, very comfortable beds and a great kitchen. It’s also in a great location with lovely views of the castle - you can walk into the village of Hedingham Castle where there are several good pubs and a small shop. The owners live next to the cottage and are very friendly and helpful - they gave us fresh eggs, which the children loved! We would definitely stay at the cottage again, and hope to return next year. April 2011.
