In the grounds are two well-stocked lakes, where coarse fishing is available by arrangement with the owner. The cottage is ideally placed for visiting NT properties Wakehurst Place, Sheffield Park, Standen (home of William Morris), as well as Chartwell, Chiddingstone, Hever Castle and Penshurst Place. Hartfield Village is 31/2 miles for A.A. Milne’s Pooh Bridge, and Tunbridge Wells for its famous Pantiles and spa. Racing at Lingfield offers a pleasant way to spend an afternoon or evening, whilst there is sailing at Bough Beech Reservoir and bird lovers will enjoy seeing migrating ospreys at the adjacent nature reserve. Excellent walking in Ashdown Forest. Golf locally. Shops 31/2 miles.

  3. A bit far away from any shops so you need to stock up well before going to this property but a large fridge freezer is provided to help with that problem. Lovely house and garden and a fisherman’s paradise. June 2012.

  11. The rooms were a good size, the beds were very comfortable and the owners provided a few little extras - like salt and pepper, kitchen roll, dishwasher tablets etc. It’s amazing what a difference these can make to a holiday. Aug 2010.

  20. The cottage is situated in a beautiful spot, especially in spring when all the bluebells are in bloom. It is an excellent base to tour the area and go to all the National Trust properties but also to the coast and of course London. May 2008.
