Property Description

These delightful adjoining cottages lie in the picturesque Ithon Valley. Conveniently situated on the A483, allowing access into the heart of this unspoilt region. Originally built in the 19th century, their tasteful refurbishment retains much original character and feel of this tranquil setting whilst providing all modern amenities. Woodside Cottage has a large patio area, whilst The Old Smithy has a conservatory overlooking the river. The shared gardens extend 200 yards along the riverbank where guests enjoy private fishing rights. Otters, a kingfisher and other wildlife often visit the garden. The river is fenced but at certain times can be fast flowing - care should be taken with small children. The two cottages have interconnecting sound-proofed doors, which once removed, form one large cottage for 10 people. The Old Smithy has a very large kitchen and dining room with a farmhouse table that will seat 10. Shop and pub 2 miles.

Ground floor: Living room with beam. Dining room/kitchen. Conservatory. First floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double (5ft), 1 twin. Shower room with toilet.

Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freesat TV. Video. DVD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Payphone. Shared gardens. Shared barbecue. Parking (2 cars). Piano.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Thoughly recommend this cottage. A lovely sanctury with a wildlife garden and it’s own stream with fishing rights - my husband was in his element. There were loads of birds - Kingfishers, Nuthatches & even a Tree Creeper! Also supposed to be an otter although we never saw him. Very well placed to explore the delights of mid Wales. Definitely going to go back maybe when the weather is a little warmer so we can enjoy sitting on the patio, with a glass of wine and watching the wildllife. Oct 2012.
  2. Lovely comfortable cottage, very well equipped, a bit isolated but in a lovely setting, easy to get to surrounding areas. April 2012.
  3. The property was very comfortable and the garden very nice, especially for our dogs. Lots of wildlife/birds in the garden. Although weather was not the best we all had a lovely rest. June 2012.
  4. Wonderful location and ambience. Great relaxation in the sun trap of a conservatory in the morning. Fascinating bird life - good range of birds. Take a bird book and buy some seeds. Kitchen facilities and equipment above expectations. Local pubs and bar food good but a distance to any superior restaurants. May 2012.
  5. A lovely cottage in a central location. March 2012.
  6. Even though facing on to a main road, the property was quiet with a picturesque and refreshing back garden facing on to the stream. Plenty of bird life but sadly no sight of kingfishers. The red kite feeding station in Rhayader is a must. Sept 2011.
  7. Really lovely cottage the gardens are beautiful. Family of four stayed with dog. Plenty of room. Well equipped cottage, comfortable beds, clean etc. Great place to relax. July 2011.
  8. If you are looking peace and quiet, walking , birdlife, access to area, this is the place for you. May 2011.
  9. Even though this property was on an A road, it was an absolutely fantastic cottage, and would gladly recommend it to singles, couples and families and/or go there again. The garden was massive, it runs alongside the stream well out of photo shot. The stream was so tranquil the picture did not do it justice, it was a pleasure sitting on the patio, listening to the water and wildlife. The cottage had much character, history, and was in pristine condition. All amenities were thought of. Walks in the surrounding area were lovely, gorgeous view from the top and well worth the difficulty of the uphill. Great wildlife around and also on top was a pond with Canadian geese. Peter (the owner) was extremely helpful and welcoming. Overall my husband and I were very pleased. April 2011.
  10. It was a lovely cottage. Better stairs and bathrooms upstairs. Big rooms. Aug 2010.
  11. Clean, comfortable - it was "as it says on the tin". June 2010.
  12. The old smithy was a lovely place to stay. It had a homely feel and everything was to a high standard. Definitly would stay there again. April 2010.
  13. A place that was very easy to relax in. Good decor and facilities. Aug 2009.
  14. Nice location (with exception of main road) and excellent facilities. Aug 2009.
  15. This cottage was warm and beautifully cared for with every thought for the comfort and happiness for a wonderful stay. Excellent family cottage. April 2009.
  16. Despite the front of the property being on the road, the back garden was secure and traffic noise was not a big problem. Otherwise it was cosy and warm with all mod cons, comfortable with a lovely large kitchen. April 2009.
