Property Description

Ideal for Western LakesIdeal for Western Lakes

Tucked away in a peaceful lane at the edge of the village, these sympathetically converted cottages provide welcoming holiday accommodation of a very good standard. Barn Owl Cottage (ref W41964), adjoining the owners’ home, is part of a converted barn and features a fully glazed barn entrance facing south to catch the sun, while the 200 year old detached Old Forge (ref W40295) and first floor apartment Willow Barn (ref W43032) both retain character features. The properties are situated in the picturesque village of Beckermet, close to Whitehaven with its historic harbour, marina and shops, which has twice been named as a Brita resort, and St Bees with its expanse of sandy beaches. This is an ideal situation from which to explore the wonderful Western Fells of the Lake District National Park and the Cumbrian coastline. Ennerdale Water and Wastwater near to Scafell Pike are within easy driving distance. For a superb day out Muncaster Castle also has beautiful gardens and an internationally renowned Owl Sanctuary, not to mention the amazing views from its elevated position. Shop and pubs 0.25 miles, beach 1.5 miles.Tucked away in a peaceful lane at the edge of the village, these sympathetically converted cottages provide welcoming holiday accommodation of a very high standard. Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Good location to explore the western side of the Lakes, and the quiet lane to the beach was very convenient for walking the dog first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Bath & hand towels were provided which was a pleasant surprise and the kitchen was well equipped. The bed was somewhat firm and the shower a little feeble compared to what we’re used to, but overall we liked the cottage very much and enjoyed our stay. July 2012.
  2. The Old Forge was delightful, clean and very well equipped. The private garden area, with tiny brook at the bottom, was restful and very pretty. The location of the cottage overall was easy to find and well placed to visit all the western lakes easily. Well worth the long drive to get there. March 2012.
  3. A quiet retreat, next to the owners cottage, but very private. Enclosed garden, with a stream running through it. The property was very traditional and kitted out well. Views of open fields from the property. Very nice. Feb 2012.
  4. Great place if you want peace and quiet. The pubs near by are realy good and let us take the dog in even though we wanted to eat (they were 6 minutes walk from cottage). Jan 2011.
  5. A lovely cottage with its own little garden and a view across fields. Very clean and cosy, ideally suited for visiting the western side of the Lake District. Two nice pubs in the village both with a warm welcome and some lovely food. Nov 2011.
  6. This is a super little cottage with views over open countryside. Total peace and quiet. The garden is ideal for dogs and is secure. An ideal base to explore the large sandy beaches of St Bees, Seascale, Ravenglass and Drigg. The lakes themselves Wast Water and Ennerdale are only a few mile inland. July 2011.
  7. Comfortable and very peaceful. Garden fully enclosed as stated which was great for the dog. July 2011.
  8. A very relaxing holiday nice and quiet excellent for walks for the dogs and also walks to the beach or 15 mins in the car to St. Bees or just a short time longer to the lakes. 2 good pubs in village 2 mins walk, both serve good food and a pint. Quiet but relaxing, well worth a visit - 10/10 April 2011.
  9. Beautiful dog friendly cottage. We will certainly return. March 2011.
  10. A cosy cottage built especially for us (it seemed), with isolation if required, yet a short walk to the pubs for meals and local company if you wish. Feb 2011.
  11. True to its description on the website. Only thing I’d pick up on was it was not mentioned that it was adjacent to the owners property which I feel is an important detail to provide. Dec 2010.
  12. Well situated and very friendly owners. Oct 2010.
  13. Very nice, very cosy. Oct 2010.
  14. Cosy. Oct 2010.
  15. Great location. Aug 2010.
  16. The property is lovely and very dog friendly. Very close to walks and near St Bees, which is absolutely gorgeous. Aug 2010.
  17. It has kept it’s character. March 2010.
  18. Location was excellent for peace and quiet but near enough to travel to tourist areas and the lakes themselves. Being very dog friendly was a positive in itself. Mar 2010.
  19. The Old Forge did not seem like a ’holiday let’, it seemed more like someone’s home - just borrowing it for a while. (Even down to tea bags, sugar, coffee, salt and pepper in the cupboards and books in the bookcase. Could have done with better maps though). Feb 2010.
  20. Rural location within a village setting. Dec 2009.
