Property Description

In the quaint village of Leigh, just south of the picturesque abbey town of Sherborne in north west Dorset, these four converted listed barns are set in an L shape around a courtyard on one side and with lovely country views over Thomas Hardy’s famous Blackmoor Vale on the other. They offer an excellent holiday base to explore north west Dorset and south Somerset. All four are renovated to a high standard with exposed beams, are tastefully furnished, and have use of a communal games room with a snooker table, table football and darts. They can be booked individually or together so are ideal for family get togethers. Though set on the edge of an organic farm (but in a non working part), the owner would be delighted to show guests around the farm, which is only a short walk away from the cottages. There is also a small flock of sheep and chickens in the cider orchard close by. There is superb country walking on the doorstep, a village shop within walking distance, golf nearby, horse riding, and water activities such as fishing, yachting, boating, sailing and canoeing at Halstock Reservoir. Within easy driving one can visit the Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum with its prototype of Concorde, the Haynes Motor Museum with its fascinating selection of vintage motor cars, and Montacute House and Gardens (one of the many historic houses in the area). To the north into south Somerset, spend days exploring Glastonbury with its famous and enchanting Tor, Wells cathedral city and Bishops Palace, the famous Cheddar Gorge and Caves, and the Georgian City of Bath with its delightful Roman baths, Pump Room, museums and of course shops and restaurants. Travel south and the spectacular World Heritage Jurassic Coast and Chesil Beach, with the popular seaside resorts of Lyme Regis, Bridport and Weymouth, all offer many attractions, sights and activities to enjoy, or more locally Sherborne Abbey and Castle (5 miles) and Dorchester market town (12 miles) are not too far. Shop 400 yards, pub 1 mile.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Clean and quiet cottage. Plenty of space to spread out. Games room a definite plus. Only possible downside - they provide a cot bed and high chair, which is great, but there’s no bath in which to wash a baby. Sept 2012.
  2. Stunning location and very rura l- just what i wanted. The property itself was very nice (photos on web dont do it justice). Games room came in handy on a wet evening. Only having one toilet was a bit of a struggle when their was six of us esprecially as it was in the only bath/shower room. But it didnt detract from a great holiday overall. August 2012.
  3. Fantastic property for a peaceful break in a beautiful village but with the added extra of being within reach of the Dorset coastline. April 2012.
  4. Great property for families especially with the games room and our kids loved the Christmas tree! Dec 2011.
  5. We liked the furnishings and decor in the cottage, very nice, modern and clean. Beautiful view. Jan 2011.
  6. Nicely appointed, well maintained, clean and well-furnished - the perfect holiday base. Aug 2010.
  7. Nice, newly converted barn in fabulous setting and quiet village. Locals very friendly. Games room greatly enjoyed by both children and adults during our stay. May 2010.
  8. The Old Dairy has been beautifully converted and was incredibly comfortable. April 2010.
