It is an excellent centre for walking, with access to the Fells directly from the garden. Set in secluded grounds overlooking Grasmere Lake and valley, there are superb views from the terrace. Ambleside, 3 miles, and Keswick, 12 miles, offer a full range of attractions and there are many historic houses and gardens locally. Wood Close is a traditional country house built on the slopes of Rydal Fell, and now divided into 9 apartments. It is an excellent centre for walking with access to the Fells directly from the garden. Set in secluded grounds overlooking Grasmere Lake and valley, there are superb views from the terrace, and the large picture window of first floor apartment Silver Howe, (B5934). Ambleside, 3 miles, and Keswick, 12 miles, offer a full range of attractions and there are many historic houses and gardens locally. Grasmere, famous for Wordsworth and Dove Cottage, has a good selection of restaurants and shops.

Sloping path to entrance. All on first floor: Living/dining room with beams, single bed and pull-out single. Dining room/kitchen. 1 double bedroom. Bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

Electricity fire and electricity by £1 meter. NSH (October-April) included. Video. DVD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Tumble dryer. Shared 3-acre grounds and woodland with terrace and seating. Parking. No smoking. NB: Small, unfenced pond and small stream in grounds.

  3. Cosy property, ideally placed for walking into Grasmere and onto the fells without using the car. Enclosed porch a bonus for towelling down the dog and leaving boots and coats to dry! Very well equipped and well provided with books etc for the occasional day when even layers of Gortex wont keep out the horizontal rain. Dec 2011.
  4. A hidden gem lovely, location easy access to lots of beautiful walks. Garden is very peaceful veiws of the lake fantastic, had daily visits from deer and red squirrels sadly no badgers. Aug 2011.
  5. A comfortable apartment in an excellent location. You will not need your car to access local walks but you must be prepared for a very steep climb back up from Grasmere! July 2011.
  6. Had a relaxing holiday at the Old Coach House, lovely place to stay, comfortable & clean, some good walks close by - would recommend this cottage. We saw red deer in the garden - fantastic sight. June 2011.
