Property Description

Approached by a gated track and sited within level walking distance of Bakewell, this detached holiday cottage (to the right of stables building – largest building in photograph) is set in fields adjacent to the Bakewell Showground (first Wednesday and Thursday in August). Bakewell has a weekly livestock and stall market (Mondays) and a swimming pool. It is a good base from which to visit Derbyshire’s magnificent landscape, country houses and the ‘plague village’ of Eyam. The 8-mile long Monsal Trail (500 yards) provides excellent walking and cycling. Golf, riding, fishing and tennis available locally. Cycle hire ½ mile. Shops and pub 1 mile.

Cosy, compact beamed living/dining room. Fitted kitchen. First floor: Double bedroom with 5ft bed. Single bedroom. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

  1. Within this property, holiday goers find themselves in a very comfortable, peaceful base from which to make excursions into the surrounding countryside. My fiancee and I chose the location primarily so that we would be able to enjoy long hikes in the country, and the Old Cart Shed was absolutely ideal for this. Also, the town of Bakewell was a great destination in the late afternoons and evenings for dinner and a drink or two. The only thing that was not easy was the directions from Bakewell to the property. They’re not precise. Fortunately the property owner, helped us over the phone. April 2012.
  2. Delightful pocket of peace in the Peaks. Horses, pheasants, bats, sheep and hot air balloons o your doorstep! Lovely location, excellent facilities in spotlessly clean cottage in pretty rural location - only 10 minutes walk from Bakewell with its numerous coffee shops, restaurants and pubs. March 2012.
  3. The cottage was situated ideally for Bakewell town and for walking the many trails. The weather was terrible and access to the property was difficult because of the deep puddles (definitely needed wellingtons). Parking area very restricted in front of cottage (even for our small car). Ideal for couples. Jan 2011.

We loved the situation in that it is completely detached and set peacefully among fields, with walks possible from the cottage without using the car, and yet within easy walking distance of Bakewell town centre. Extremely clean, with lovely views from all sides. Also close to the Bakewell show fields which might be a bit of a mixed blessing depending on what events are taking place on the fields, but we enjoyed watching the activity from the bedroom window!
