With views to the sea and salt-marshes from its first floor, this is a house of character and elegance, standing in its own private lawned garden and close to the centre of little Cley and its beach. A spacious, self-contained wing of imposing Cley Hall (built in 1770), it is well furnished and equipped, with excellent sailing, fishing and bird-watching on the nature reserve immediately available. Golf, swimming-pool and beach at Sheringham (5 miles). Restaurant/pub nearby. Shop 1/3 mile.

  1. I think the property details did not give justice to the magnificence of the Old Butlers House. The height of the rooms was amazing as was the location. The house is definitely old fashioned but this is not a negative in this property. We would have liked to know more about its history. Oct 2012.
  2. If you are looking for old-fashioned grandeur then this is the property for you. This cottage, in this village, in this location was as near perfect as you could get. Oct 2012.
  3. Spacious, well appointed but doesn’t feel like a hotel. Cley is the perfect location for lovers of East Anglian countryside and walks. The local Deli MUST be visited. You can spend a weekend here without even getting in a car. Feb 2012.

  5. A wonderful house and idyllic location - we had a fantastic time. Cley-next-the-Sea has lovely shops, including a brilliant deli. The house has a great kitchen and we enjoyed making lots of meals as a family - courtsey of a Tesco delivery van. We went in November and enjoyed lots of walks on the nearby beaches. A great long weekend! Nov 2011.
  6. The Old Butler’s House is a fascinating place to stay. Full of character and charm. The walled garden is a delight and the surrounding village of Cley is very picturesque. A real get-away-from-it-all holiday. Felbrigg Hall and Blickling Hall make wonderful visits as does a calm evening walk down to the sea along the coastal path. The nearby seaside towns of Wells-next-the-sea and Sheringham offer enjoyment for all. Holkham beach is a must and you can walk along it to Wells with the dogs and return via the pine forest paths. A wonderful holiday destination. July 2011.
