Property Description

Set in extensive, private woodland grounds which extend to over 25 acres, The Log House nestles within a mixed ‘old plantation’ forest offering the most outstanding ‘get away’ retreat. Located just outside Capel Curig and only six miles from Snowdon, the house was built over 110 years ago by a Norwegian sea captain. It was later owned by the Lloyd George family during the 1920s, reputedly used by the prime minister at the height of his powers as a hideaway for himself and his girlfriends! Guests are free to roam the grounds which are available for their exclusive use. Features include a lively tributary of the River Llugwy which tumbles down the mountain side on the eastern boundary, a tennis court, cross country running track, summer house (built by Lloyd George), an orchard and football pitch! There is also a small heated outdoor swimming pool available by prior arrangement. Follow tracks around the grounds, some of which take you to the top of Alt Goch, and these offer amazing 360 degree views of Snowdonia. Moel Siabod, a 872m high summit (from which it is reputedly possible to see 13 of the 14 highest peaks in Wales on a clear day), can be conquered direct from the house and forms an amazing back drop to the lower gardens. The house is surrounded by terraced gardens and for those with the outdoor spirit, a fire pit with seating is available on an upper terrace for evenings around an open fire. A short climb up a path leads to the property which provides a unique and cosy atmosphere only a log house can generate. Views of the lower ranges of Snowdonia can be seen from two bedrooms and the rear terrace. Nearby Betws-y-Coed is known for its bustling shops, pubs and restaurants. Swallow Falls are a 30-minute walk (or 5 minutes’ drive), and Llanberis, Snowdon and the outdoor pursuits of Capel Curig are easily accessible. Shops 2 miles.

  1. We wished we’d stayed for two weeks. It was magical for our children (4 and 7), and they are already asking when we will go back! Oct 2011.
  2. Wonderful secluded accommodation. You neednt go out there was so much to do in the grounds. Had a brilliant holiday. So homely and full of quaint fixtures and fittings. Family entertainment well catered for if you are unlucky with the weather. The swimming pool was well worth the extra cost. July 2011.
  3. Lovely cottage, full of character, very well equipped and ideally situated in North Wales. Aug 2010.

  6. We all loved The Log House for its eccentricity and uniqueness. The house has a lovely feel and the piano was a real hit even though none of us could play. You have all equipment provided that is needed ie kitchen ware, good sound system, tennis rackets, books etc. Was lovely to have so much space and your own waterfall!! The kids loved it all! Swimming pool was lovely and warm so well worth paying the extra to have it heated just in case its not that sunny! Fantastic and very cosy.. unique and eccentric, fantastic grounds and location, very charming decor. Aug 2009.
  7. The most beatiful place I have ever been to. It was a real get away from it all kind of place and the pictures really dont do it justice. Truly Magical!
  8. The property was amazing, if anything the photos did not do the property justice. Beautiful grounds and very very helpful caretaker. I would love to go back there. Sept 2008.
  9. Charming, Idiosyncratic, characterful, homely. Loved the books & the art work. Like staying at the home of a good friend! April 2007.
  10. The property was described as secluded, and it really was - totally away from everything. The swimming pool was accessed by a winding grassy trail a good way from the house and was located by a running stream - absolutely perfect! March 2007.
