Dating back to 1860, this large Victorian property enjoys views over the surrounding fields towards Butterley Reservoir and Pentrich, and has been beautifully furnished to provide holiday accommodation of a very high standard. Adjoining the owners’ home – which formerly served as the vicarage – it has shared use of a games room with full-size snooker table, professional table football, outdoor table tennis and makes a fine base for touring the Peak District – lying in an area offering a wealth of attractions for visitors.
For those with a penchant for shopping, the Amber Valley Individual Factory Shops Trail is a must and includes McArthurGlen retail outlet, De Bradelei Mill Shop at Belper, Denby Potteries and Royal Crown Derby. There are farmers’ and regular weekly markets in many of the nearby towns including Bakewell and Ashbourne. Alton Towers, Britain’s premier theme park, is close by. Younger children will also enjoy Gullivers Kingdom at nearby Matlock.
Water sports enthusiasts can enjoy the excellent facilities at Carsington Water, whilst Shipley Country Park has miles of meandering footpaths and bridleways. At the Midland Railway Centre, transport enthusiasts can take in the nostalgia of the age of steam and travel through countryside for 7 miles. Meanwhile the National Tramway Museum at Crich offers a family day out in a relaxing atmosphere of a bygone era. Stately homes gracing the area include Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall (a fine medieval manor house) and Hardwick Hall and Kedleston Hall (a fine example of the architecture of Robert Adam). Tennis, riding, golf and swimming at Alfreton, 2 miles. Derby, 12 miles offers cathedral, museums and good shopping. Shop 220 yards.

  1. Excellent layout for our purposes - family event nearby. Description accurate, room sizes good. Directions accurate but tricky to find without overshooting - from North plan to turn right through gap in central reservation AS SOON AS road is split by central reservation. From South access is near the top of the hill, but BEFORE the central reservation stops. Look for 2 LARGE stone gateposts and go between up drive. Aug 2012.
  2. The house and accommodation were of the highest quality. Certainly one of the best we have stayed at throughout the years we have booked through your company. Our only regret was that the house was located somewhat further away from the main ares of interest in Derbyshire than we had anticipated, but we realise this was our choice. We are limited in our choices because we have eleven in our party. Aug 2012.
  3. Second time we have stayed there. Perfect for meeting up with family, as we did, and relaxing. Plenty of room to fit everyone and well provisioned in terms of cutlery etc. Good location in terms of a base to explore the Peak District. Great food at Black Dog, Pentrich. June 2012.

  9. The Limes was a fantastic house for a group. We all had young children and yet didn’t feel on top of each other, or hear each other’s children at night - the insulation is good! There was plenty of space (all bedrooms were of a decent size), a well kitted out kitchen, a great hot water and heating system (being there over New Year in the cold it really mattered) and an easy house to be in. The only comment is that the photos on the website really don’t do it justice and it is much nicer and in better condition than it looks. Dec 2009.
