Property Description

The Laurels is a superb example of a large, Grade II Listed town house, which is decorated to a very good standard, located in the very small, friendly town of Bishops Castle. The holiday home is within walking distance of the many interesting little shops in the main street, two banks, PO and five pubs, two of which are famous for brewing their own beer. There are several good restaurants and also a very good Indian restaurant. Shrewsbury - a delightful medieval town with the River Severn flowing through its midst makes for a pleasant day out, as do Ludlow, Powys Castle, Offa’s Dyke, the Long Mynd and Acton Scott Working Farm Museum. There are also many picturesque villages in the surrounding area. Many National Trust properties are nearby and the whole area is very popular with walkers and hikers. The Welsh coast with its beautiful beaches lies 63 miles distant. Shops ½ mile.

  1. Another bathroom/shower room is needed. The house was lovely with enough space for a large group to feel comfortable and not cramped. The bedrooms were spacious and very comfortable beds. Oct 2011.
  2. This is an interesting house, loads of space and comfortable furnishings. Within a few yards of the small town centre there is a choice of places to eat and drink without taking the car. The surrounding area is beautiful with great walking, castles and country houses. Not much to do if it rains except get wet. The cooking facilities and bathrooms are not up to the size of the house and number of bedrooms. July 2011.
  3. Well equipped and comfortable with very helpful owners. Plenty of eating places within walking distance. Only two bathrooms (3 toilets), for a property sleeping up to 12 was disappointing & access to the driveway parking was narrow. June 2011.
  4. The cottage is absolutely great - we went with a group of 7 adults and 8 children, and there was plenty of space and oodles of character. There are also a number of separate sitting areas for different activities in each if desired. The cooking hob was a little slow. The owners were very friendly. May 2011.
  5. This house is a wonderful place to stay... 12 people and 2 dogs and yet we never got under each other’s feet. With 4 reception rooms, a kitchen and large utility, it offers much more room than the website suggests. Being close to the shops in a friendly town was also a bonus. Would definitely return.   13. The Laurels is perfect for a large group with children as there’s lots of room downstairs for a separate play area and has two "family suites". It’s also great to be well-positioned in the village (close to shops, pubs etc) but also really close to beautiful countryside and walking. Dec 2007.
  14. We felt the web site pictures did not to the house justice, it was really lovely. There was no pond/waterfall in garden so its a good garden for children but it would be a good idea to inform guests that the garden is not completely enclosed and there is a dangerous drop for toddlers/ young children at the back of one of the flower beds! May 2008.
  15. A beautiful and restful house, well furnished and thoughtfully equipped. The property is far more architecturally interesting than the website is able to demonstrate. We had a lovely time. June 2008.
  16. The photos don’t do the house justice. There are four reception rooms so we never got under each others feet (17 adults). The location close to the town is fantastic and a highlight of the property. A great place for a get together - just watch the gate on the way in! Sept 2008.
  17. This is a wonderful property - the photos on the website do not do it justice! It is the perfect place for a large family reunion - 14 of us stayed there ranging in age from 1 to 70 something! We had a fantastic holiday!! Oct 2008.

The property was better than we had expected, it had everything required and more, you could call it a 5* it was enjoyed by all that went, the house was a one off "very old and some modern," and the town was very friendly and has all that a family would need, Excellent Holiday its a pity it went so quick.
