Property Description

Detached converted barn in a lovely position, about a mile from the pretty village of Elsdon on the edge of the Northumberland National Park. It has superb views over open countryside and an enclosed south-facing garden and patio. This holiday cottage makes an ideal base for walking and touring in the unspoilt countryside of Northumbria. The attractive market town of Rothbury is 13 miles away, with the Scottish Borders and Kielder Water and Forest within 30 minutes. The Northumberland coast, Newcastle and Hadrian’s Wall are all less than an hour’s drive. Many castles and NT properties in the area. Shop and pubs 1 mile.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin. Shower room with toilet.

Multi-fuel burner in living room included. Gas central heating, electricity and bed linen included. Stereo/CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Patio with chairs and lawned garden area beyond. Parking (2 cars).

  1. A well situated and equipped cottage. Very comfortable. Ideally located for a variety of trips out, Scottish border only 27 miles away - view from actual border is stunning! Lovely garden overlooking rolling countryside - plenty of sheep to watch if nothing on TV! Overall highly recommended. April 2012.
  2. This cottage is bright and comfortable with amazing views. Even when it rained it was a pleasure to stay inside. The garden was perfect for our Jack Russell and totally secure.   4. This is the second time that we have stayed at The Hemmel. This time we have brought my mother-in-law came with us to see Northumberland. Once again, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is so relaxing to sit and relax looking at the beautiful views. It is handy to travel to most places with a visit over the border not too far either! At night when the temperature dropped outside, the heating was there to keep you warm. The bathroom is excellent and spacious too. All in all, an ideal place to stay. May 2011.
  5. The Hemmel was in a wonderful location with a secure garden which had open views for miles. The cottage was very clean and it really felt home from home and it had a lovely open fire which was a real treat. I would highly recommend this to anyone. April 2011.

  11. We have visited The Hemmel 3 times before, and have noticed improvements - ie new fitted bathroom and new suite adding to its comfort. Feb 2010.
  12. The location and views were incredible. We could also not find any faults with the property. We particularly like how dog friendly the property is. The Hemmel is a very well thought out cottage and it met everyone of our requirements for our holiday with our three dogs. Feb 2010.

From the outside it had a very good aspect, and as we opened the door and stepped inside it was obvious that every effort had been made to attain a high standard of cleanliness and comfort, even the little touches of Christmas decorations about the cottage. Couldn’t fault it at all. Weather would have been for some very poor, but it was over Christmas and we had snow what more could one want. The views were breathtaking a winter wonderland. Dec 2009.
