Property Description

This imposing detached house, on the edge of the pretty coastal village of Mortehoe, lies in an elevated position in 2 acres of garden and has views across the cliff tops to the sea. Offering spacious living and a games room (in the sub-basement, accessed via a side door), it is ideal for large family or group gatherings. The property is set out over five separate apartments and, although unconventional, the layout functions well as one unit with ample bathrooms/shower rooms plus additional kitchen facilities if needed. Guests have plenty of space to ensure a relaxing holiday in this stunning part of the country or to celebrate a special occasion in style. The Grange is a short walk from the village with post office/newsagent, general store, delicatessen, restaurants (one renowned as one of the best fish restaurants in the south west), fish and chip shop, three pubs serving food, heritage centre and a church with a medieval history. Walk from the house on to the coastal path, local beaches and coves. Woolacombe beach, 1 mile, spans 2 miles; this impressive Blue Flag beach is ideal for surfing or walking through the sand dunes. Exmoor is a short drive with spectacular views. There are NT properties at Arlington and Knightshayes and the RHS gardens at Rosemoor, Great Torrington. Barnstaple, 12 miles, has theatre, cinema and leisure activities. Places of interest include the Museum of North Devon, Pannier Market, 14th-century St Anne’s Chapel and 18th-century Queen Anne’s Walk. Braunton is the gateway to North Devon’s surfing area. Plenty to do for all ages including many quality golf courses, Clovelly, lighthouse and quay at Hartland, the Big Sheep and Milky Way amusement parks, cycling on the Tarka Trail or crabbing at Appledore quay. Shops and pub 500 yards.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. A fantastic holiday home for a break with a large group of family and friends (including the pet dog). The house is spacious with lots of room to get lost in so we never felt like we were on top of each other. The kids loved the enormous garden and the adults without children enjoyed the second sitting room which we made a child free zone. The furnishing won’t get into any designer living magazine but that just meant that we felt comfortable and didn’t have to worry about toddlers making a mess. A great week had by all and we would all visit again (despite the rain!) June 2012.
  2. The Grange is set in beautiful grounds, very private and ideal for a large family gathering. The house itself is very spacious and very well equipped. With a few minor adjustments we managed to get all our party around the dining room table at once. The bedrooms are large and comfortable mostly all comprising of an en-suite. There was not one complaint from the 20 of us who stayed, even with 20 you could still find a quiet spot in or around the house to relax, in fact we could have stayed for another week. We would recommend The Grange for family holidays. May 2012.
  3. The description in brochure and on line is misleading as the property is larger and has better facilities than stated - more bedrooms, bathrooms, sitting areas etc. A lovely house and very helpful caretaker Outstandingly beautiful area. Oct 2011.
  4. The house was fantastic. All the facilities in it were excellent. The bedrooms were spacious, decorated to a high standard, very clean. The views from the property were amazing, the garden was so large you could get lost in it and included a badminton net set up with plenty of space for a game, a small orchard and an excellent shallow slope for small children to roll down! The convenience of the house for Morthoe shops and pubs, the coast path and the excellent surfing beaches was wonderful. It is a real hidden gem and we have already booked for next year! Sept 2011.
  5. Great location and comfortable - comments below re some details should not detract overall. March 2011.
  6. We all loved this house - its has a really friendly feel about it. Like that there was massive of room, and the shabby chic went well with our messy family. Hope to be back next year. Jan 2011.
  7. For a family christmas get together with 9 young children the accomodation offered plenty of space. Dec 2010.
  8. Fantastic house for a large group with well presented and flexible accommodation. Nov 2010.
  9. Very spacious. Lots of facilities (contained apartments upstairs). Great view. Oct 2010.
  10. The accommodation was to a high standard, with able space for our party of 16 people. We would recommend the property. Oct 2010.
  11. Size, location, layout. July 2010.
  12. The house was beautiful, both in its location and interior. The website did not do it justice! Everything was clean, tidy and presentable. The views of the sunset were absolutely amazing, and there was plenty of room for 21 people to move about the house, enjoy the garden, and have a relaxing weekend. June 2010.
  13. Incredible house with stunning views. Large garden. May 2010.
  14. Ideal for large parties. Excellent location. May 2010.
