Historical base

Monkstadt became the seat of the Clan Macdonald in 1730 when they abandoned Duntulm Castle. Nearby are servants’ houses and a steading which includes a granary stable, cartshed and a mill with horse walk. Monkstadt has played a romantic role in highland history. The stables and Granary have been sympathetically converted into first class holiday accommodation. This single storey corner property, accessed via a 1 mile track, is ideal for exploring the mysterious Isle of Skye. Flora Macdonalds monument and ruined Duntulm Castle are nearby. The Quirang and Old Man of Storr encourage walkers and climbers whilst the beauty, wildlife and various outdoor pursuits appeal to all groups. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

17 steps to entrance. All on one level: Living/dining room/kitchen. 1 double bedroom. Shower room with toilet.

Electric central heating and electricity included (by meter reading October-April). Bed linen and towels included. Stereo/CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washer/dryer. Garden furniture. Parking (1 car). No children.

  11. The property was good value. The only thing which we could possibily critise is the fact that our dog had to be kept on a lead within the grounds of the property. We come from the country and unfortunately he’s not used to being tied up. Apart from this small point we had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The property was very private - not overlooked by any other property. The views from the property were magnificent. July 2009.
  12. If you wish peace & quiet outdoor life, scenery, hillwalking, climbing, fishing, cosy nights in or a pint or two in a local pub and don’t mind using your own transport Skye is the place to go. We throughly enjoyed ourselves. March 2009.
  13. I was surprised it was only rated as "good quality" and three arrows! Out of the other properties at Monkstadt, this was definitely the one with the best views over the loch and over towards mountains and the Outer Hebredies.It was extremely tranquil and peaceful as well. The interior was very tastefully done as well. Next time I go back it would certainly be to the same place. June 2007.
