Property Description

Scenic location

Chestnut Farm, a 17th century Derbyshire farm, longbarn and dairy have been sympathetically converted into five individual properties that combine modern comfort with the distinctive construction methods of the era. Set within 1¼ acres of courtyard and grounds, the farm looks out over the undisputed beauty of the Peak District National Park, and yet is less than 15 minutes to the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. Retaining many original features including beams and exposed stone walls, each cottage offers individual holiday accommodation, welcoming couples or large family parties who may wish to book several cottages together. Situated in Uppertown, just above the village of Bonsall, high above the wooded ’Via Gellia’ gorge, it is ideal for walkers with the Limestone Way passing immediately alongside the farm. Matlock is 10 minutes away with supermarket, bus and rail, and a steam train up the Derwent Valley. The lively town of Matlock Bath, approximately 2½ miles by car or walk through woodland, has a mining museum, Abraham Cable Cars and Gullivers Kingdom. All the scenic delights of the Peak District are a short drive including Carsington Water, High Peak Trail, Dovedale and the Manifold Valley. The market towns of Bakewell, Buxton and Ashbourne are all within a half hour drive along with Chatsworth House, Haddon Halla and the Crich Tramway Village all a similar drive. Alton Towers and the Potteries are well worth the drive. Shop 100 yards, pub ½ mile.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. 1 double bedroom. Wet room with toilet. Beams and tiled floor throughout.

Gas woodburner in living room included. Courtyard with sitting-out area. Parking (1 car). One pet welcome (to be kept on a lead at all times).

All properties: Gas central heating, underfloor heating, gas, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. DVD. CD. Gas cooker. Microwave. Dishwasher. Shared playing field. No smoking.

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. A very comfortable home from home experience. Very welcoming and helpful owners. Oct 2012.
  2. Situated at the top of a quite big hill in a lovely, friendly village handy for Matlock and surrounding area. A very good pub and coffee shop. Endless walks. Cottage and area excellent. Sept 2012.
  3. We had a lovely time, the area and the local people were friendly and welcoming. The owner of The Dairy advised the Beehive pub to eat at, and we found the pub lovely good food and very welcoming, they even cooked the dog a sausage. Sept 2011.
  4. The cottage is small but very cosy and comfortable with a superb heating system. Everything we could possibly need was provided making cooking meals etc very easy and enjoyable. The cottage is very isolated, and due to the poor weather, this made outdoor activites difficult. We had to travel by car to nearby villages as alternative days out. Had the weather been better, there are some great walks to be had around the village itself. Location: the cottage is isolated and although there is a nearby pub serving meals, it is still a fair walk away and up some rather steep hills! Overall, a great walkers holiday and a lovely cottage. Aug 2011.
  5. Quiet. Private. Countryside. Aug 2010.
  6. It was quiet, quaint, well furnished and equipped, cosy and comfortable. Oct 2010.
  7. Clean and very well equipped, ideal for dog with tiles throughout. July 2010.
  8. Quiet location within easy reach of local towns and amenities. Everything worked and was in good order - facilities were good. May 2010.
  9. Very clean, warm and up to date furnishings and decorations. Jan 2010.
  10. Excellent cottage facility in pretty location. Aug 2009.
  11. We enjoyed the accommodation, we were met by the owner on our arrival and he showed us around and places to visit. Very Good. July 2009.
  12. Overall the cottage was good value, a very good weekend break. July 2009.
  13. The Dairy was excellent, perfect for a couple, lots of nice little touches like teabags, wine and biscuits left by the owners, as well as tissues and shower gel in case you had forgotten. The owners were very helpful and friendly and gave excellent advise on local pubs, walks etc. I can’t rate this accommodation highly enough! May 2008.
  14. A lovely spot very quiet and out of the way. Everything was excellent, no problems. June 2008.
  15. Delightful small property in the heart of some great countryside. We loved the village of Bonsall and its picturesque surroundings. March 2008.
