Property Description

This lovely holiday cottage, adjoining the owner’s property, is a tastefully renovated, early 18th-century converted corn mill. Featuring open, original beams, exposed stonework and some of the mill’s workings, the cottage overlooks the River Marron. Branthwaite is a small village close to the Lake District’s National Park; it is just 4 miles from Loweswater and 6 miles from Crummock Water. Shop 2 miles, pub 500 yards.

Ground floor: Hall. First floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. Open tread stairs to second floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Gas woodburner in living room included. Gas central heating, gas, electricity, bed linen and towels included. travel cot. High chair. DVD. Stereo/CD. Gas cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Dishwasher. Wi-fi. Garden and chairs. Barbecue. Ample parking. No smoking. NB: Drops in garden and access to river.

  6. Lovely setting by mill stream, next to owner’s house, quiet hamlet, nice pub. Friendly owners but not intrusive. Worked well with dog who slept on ground floor flagstones (part of old mill). Very good kitchen facilities, cosy armchairs and fire. Nice clean comfy bedrooms. Good weather on whole (end August).15 mins to Cockermouth and Wordsworth’s birthplace(NT) and 20 - 30 mins to Loweswater and Buttermere for stunning walks. Definitely recommend if you don’t mind being just outside National Park. Surprisingly few tourists on this west side of Lake District. Aug 2011.

  10. The location of the cottage is excellent as it is central to the North Western end of the Lake District and away from the normal tourist routes, but right on the doorstep of some of the best walks, lakes, and hills. May 2011.
  11. Absolutely excellent accommodation. So quaint and ’different’ from the usual villa or apartment. Such welcoming owners, who live adjacent to property, with a welcome tea tray on arrival, heating and gas fire on because it was a rainy day. Local pubs excellent for meals. May 2011.
