Property Description

This uniquely converted beamed barn is situated in the depths of the Kentish countryside with beautiful views, yet only 7 miles from Canterbury. The Barn enjoys some specially commissioned stained glass panels which beautifully illuminate the kitchen, dining area and conservatory. There are also some individual sculptures for guests to enjoy both inside and outside the house. The property is set in almost 2 acres of gardens which exude peace and tranquillity, and have been divided into different areas, one of which boasts a water feature. There is a large outdoor chessboard, and the garden, which is partly lit at night, also houses an indoor heated swimming pool. Beyond the garden lie fields and countryside which are great for walking and bird-watching.
The property is ideally placed for visiting historic Canterbury, which offers a rich slice through two thousand years of history, with Roman and early Christian ruins, a Norman castle and a famous cathedral that dominates a medieval warren of time-skewed Tudor buildings. Ashford is ideal for shopping at the Designer Outlet. Trips to Paris can be taken from Ashford International Station, or Dover is also nearby for ferries to France. Dover also has a castle perched high on the famous White Cliffs, and Second World War tunnels. Port Lympne Wild Animal Park is ideal for children and houses hundreds of rare animals including elephants, tigers and lions amongst many others. The mansion is surrounded by 15 acres of spectacular gardens and has a mural room depicting over 300 animals and birds from South East Asia. Shops 4 miles, pub serving good food, 200 yards.

Step to entrance. Large beamed living room with open fire, maple floor, huge inglenook and French doors to terrace. Dining room with terracotta-tiled floor. Well-equipped farmhouse-style kitchen with terracotta-tiled floor and living/dining area. Second kitchen with living/breakfast area. Conservatory with slate floor and stained glass windows. Three double bedrooms. Bunk bedroom. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Shower room. Separate toilet. First floor: Galleried bridge landing leading to beamed double bedroom with sloping ceiling, oak floor and superb countryside views. Beamed twin bedroom with sloping ceiling. Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. An excellent venue for a family get together. Room to roam, pool to enjoy, table tennis and spacious garden. April 2012.
  2. Splendid spacious interesting property just right for a large family break. April 2012.
  3. We went with a party for a 30th birthday, and the place was perfect. great gardens, fantastic swimming pool, beautiful house and enough room for everyone to feel they had some space. Place is decorated really lovely, with a lot of remarkable pieces, such as the stained glass in the kitchen, and an open fire as well. I’d recommend to anyone looking for a place to spend time with a group of friends or family and enjoy each others company whether relaxing, taking a walk or a swim, or having a dance about in the evening. Feb 2012.
  4. A beautiful property, in a beautiful location. The owners have lavished real care and attention throughout both the house and garden, and we had a wonderful weekend. Oct 2011.
  5. The Barn is an excellent venue. The accommodation is wonderful. Full of personal art and extremely comfortable. The swimming pool was beautifully warm and again well appointed with changing facilities, toilet etc. Everywhere there were new things to explore in the garden and the house. The setting was perfect as was our welcome from our hosts. Marvellous holiday which our family thoroughly enjoyed. Sept 2011.
  6. This spacious and interesting house and gardens, filled with an eclectic mix of artefacts (presumably gathered over very many years), enabled our extended family to enjoy games together and individual time. The swimming pool was a great hit with everyone. Be prepared for almost no mobile phone signal! However, there is a pay phone. Also, could be difficult to find. Sept 2011.
  7. The Barn has been created and furnished with creative flair and imagination. The swimming pool was a good size and enjoyed by all the family. The gardens are full of unexpected corners, statues and atmosphere that is very relaxing. A wonderful break, enjoyed by all. Sept 2011.
  8. An amazing property with a quirky and interesting garden. The pool was a huge bonus with kids! There are lots to do in the area: we just didn’t have enough time as we spent so much time at The Barn! Aug 2011.
  9. We celebrated our Ruby Wedding at The Barn in May with our two Daughters, Son-in-laws & two Grandchildren (5 yrs old & 2 yr old). The main attraction was the indoor swimming pool and we were not disappointed. The photos of the property are also very good. I loved all the unusual artwork everywhere. There were lots of things of interest inside & outside in the extensive gardens. Very well thought out. You saw different things ALL the time. There were also lots of books, boxed games, even toys for the children, which we didn’t use as our weather was fantastic. Our friends have also been intrigued and enjoyed all of our photographs. We certainly have some great memories of our special weekend. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Barn to anymone, in fact we already have :o) May 2011.
  10. This Property is a ’Home’. I was in a family of 10,Ages ranged from 5-92 (92 year old disabled nan). We had a fantastic time all of us being together. It was a truly lovely ’Barn’ the pictures do no justice to the property and had read that on the website, its gorgeous - very different and you will be seeing different things daily. March 2011.
  11. Very spacious, clean and modern. Excellent amenities and made very welcome by the property owner and his wife. Pool was a big hit with our grand daughter, however this was for an 80th birthday and all four generations had an excellent and relaxing time. Nov 2010.
  12. The Barn is really spacious and allowed 4 adults and 5 children to each find a corner to relax. The children dominated the large kitchen and watched TV and played games, whilst the adults lit a fire in the drawing room and quietly read (without using the TV!). The best part of this place for us is that the pool is beautifully warm. We have stayed at other houses with indoor pools where the owners’ insist that the pool is warm enough and it never is. At the Barn you can play in the pool without the need to speed swim lengths to keep warm! Oct 2010.
  13. Very spacious property furnished and decorated to a very high standard. Pool and garden were also excellent. Oct 2010.
  14. Fantastic accommodation, photo’s didn’t do it justice, much larger than expected. Sept 2010.
  15. The Barn has ample space, and is excellent for any special occasion. It is full of character and homely warmth. Sept 2010.
  16. Fabulous. Sept 2010.
  17. The Barn is very spacious and welcoming. Aug 2010.
  18. Fabulous accommodation which felt like a home rather than a house. Swimming pool is excellent for young children and also the pub 200 yards away has fabulous food and a childrens play area in the garden, we would definitely visit again. May 2010.
  19. Huge and spacious the pictures on the website dont do it much justice its far better in real life! Had a great time everything we needed was there and everything was in immaculate condition. May 2010.
  20. Lovely place for a family holiday, the pool was a great bonus and the garden allthough a work in progress still was quirky. The children loved the outdoor chess. Canterbury is not far and the countryside is lovely. March 2010.
