Property Description

This detached, single-storey property is set in a very romantic location on the unspoilt island of Taggart. Accessible by an unmade road when the tide is out, the island enjoys magnificent views of Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick. An ideal location for getting away from it all, the island is great for walking and fishing and activities locally include horse riding, Rosmoney Sailing Club and Westport Golf Club. The town of Westport is just 3 miles away with its many restaurants and pubs, some of which offer traditional music.

Step to entrance, all on ground floor: Spacious living/dining room/kitchen. Utility room. 3 bedrooms: 2 double, 1 single. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Open fire in living room (initial fuel included). Electric central heating and power by meter reading. Bed linen and towels included. Video (on request). Microwave. Washing machine. Tumble dryer. Use of owner’s 40 acres farmland with furniture. Barbecue. On-site fishing. Parking (2 cars). Easy walking access. NB: Sea frontage.

  1. A perfect spot for an off season break, easy to get to from Dublin close to Westport with good shops and amenities but the cottage feels its is in deepest countryside. Well fitted, cosy and fantastic views and enough space to have a walk about even when the tide is up. Nov 2012.
  2. Very quiet, few sheep and cattle to keep you company. Brian the patterdale terrier loved it as much we did, one hour to walk around island l(et tide go out first) . Westport is lovley this is our ideal place to chill out for a week or two. Oct 2011.
  3. The setting and location was fantastic. The island and surroundings were lovely. We knew from the description of the cottage that it would be basic and that the relatively high cost was justified by the superb location. Nonetheless we felt that the cottage could do with some refreshing - things like old towels, threadbare bath mats and poor quality furniture could easily and cheaply be replaced and would make a big difference to the feel of the cottage. However, it would be wrong for the cottage to be decorated or fitted out with any ’luxury’ items - it needs to be kept simple. We found the amount of time we could access the island by the causeway was much longer than we’d expected - but the owner is right to be cautious about the times she gives for this as actual tides can differ from predicted due to the weather. We knew the weather on the West coast of Ireland is unpredictable and fast-changing but were amazed at how different the weather could be between the island and Westport, which is less than 5 miles away. We had a super holiday - Clew Bay is beautiful. The cottage is OK but with a bit of TLC it could be truly lovely. May 2011.
  4. The road to the island was incredibly rocky, but being able to pick fresh mussels for supper and watch the seal swim around the bay was well worth it! Need to plan your trips out around the tide. Fantastic views of Croagh Patrick. Westport has lots of lovely shops to browse in and the Museum of Irish Country Life was a great place to spend an afternoon with the children (free entry too!). Lovely owner,very welcoming.   13. The owners were very helpful & genial, The weather was eratic, the Irish were warm & open hearted, the modern infra-structure is good for travel, but anihilates the natural character of the countryside. Aug 2007.
  14. The owner was very helpful. The location of the cottage was absolutely spectacular if you don’t mind being governed by tides. Unfortunately we had a very bad experience with a local stables in that we would not recommend anyone using them! Overall though the location, cottage and weather were wonderful. July 2007.
  15. The ultimate "get away from it all" holiday!. If you are looking for peace and tranquility, beautiful sorroundings and to relax with a roaring fire...this is the place for you... Everything you need is 15 minutes away in the beautiful town of Westport. We have been there now 3 times and will continue to go there year after year. Sept 2007.
