Property Description

Situated in a rural location, overlooking the Pennines, these well presented and cosy adjoining barn conversions, (refs 27199 and 27200), are set on a pet-orientated smallholding. Next to a working dairy farm and surrounded by farmland, the area offers excellent walking and the cottages provide wonderful holiday homes for visitors with dogs. Each has its own enclosed garden. There is a dog agility course (available all year), and the owner provides separate accommodation for pets if visitors wish to go out without their dogs. Armathwaite, 1½ miles, on the banks of the River Eden, is an attractive small village and offers a village shop and pubs serving good food, plus scenic journeys on the famous Settle-Carlisle railway from its station. Set equidistant from the market town of Penrith and the historic city of Carlisle, 8 miles, Coombs View offers easy access to the northern lakes and Ullswater, the Scottish Border and Hadrian’s Wall plus the largely undiscovered, beautiful Eden Valley. Shop and pubs 1½ miles.

  2. Lovely friendly hosts, everything you would need is there, and for us it was dog friendly there is also a hydrotherapy pool for a little payment for your animal which our dog loved. Oct 2012.
  3. The accommodation was exactly what we were looking for with close proximity to local amenities but secluded enough to be tranquil and peaceful. The accommodation itself was spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly require. The owners were especially friendly and helpful and the dog enclosure/agility park was perfect - a little small but good enough as we have three Golden Retrievers. Access to the cottage was good with the written directions taking us straight to the place. Local and not so local literature within the cottage was very good and gave us all the information we required. Overall it was perfect for our needs and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Luckily the weather was ideal with no rain only clear sunny skies. The only one concern which did not adversely affect ourselves was the cow byer next door and the noise on some mornings from the cows. The one thing you will definitely require is fly spray, as the Lake District is renowned for its midgies which were a pest everywhere we went. Overall I can highly recommend the cottage, the owners and the area. Sept 2012.
  4. This is a cosy cottage which is well kept and clean. It was great for our first attempt at taking the dog on holiday with us and we especially appreciated the secure garden and the child (dog) gate at the bottom of the stairs However for views of the countryside you will have to go out for walks or get in your car and drive. The local walks were lovely and not swamped with other dog walkers. June 2012.

  6. A small comfortable cottage with a village (and pub with good food) nearby. Excellent base for walks and days out by car (we visited the Dales, Lakes and Southwest Scotland). Very helpful owner and good facilities for our dog (a GSD who enjoyed the agility course very much). March 2012.
  7. This was a lovely and well appointed cottage with all the necessities and then some nestled on a dog friendly property close to excellent walks. A truly enclosed garden where our 2 border collies could run, as well as a large paddock for them to do the same safely--excellent! March 2012.
