Property Description

Sunnymead Cottages (ref PGZ and PHA) are situated in the High Weald village of High Hurstwood, a designated AONB. Set in a landscape of undulating pastures, they provide a peaceful retreat. Converted to a very high standard and adjoining one another; Pippins provides ground floor accommodation and Russets has ground and first floor accommodation. They lie at the end of 220 yards of private drive, amid 12 acres of gardens and orchards in the grounds of the owners’ house. The grounds are a haven for wildlife; birds, deer and badgers are regular visitors. Each cottage has its own garden area in which to sit out and unwind. The nearby Bluebell Steam Railway makes frequent journeys from Sheffield Park, with its period railway station. A great day out can also be enjoyed in Ashdown Forest, under two miles away and a refuge for wildlife. It offers opportunities for walking, riding and picnics. If guests do not feel like taking the car out, there is direct access onto a public footpath just outside the garden and the Vanguard Way is only 10 minutes’ walk away. Local wines can be sampled at various vineyards in the vicinity. There is easy access to historic houses including Glyndebourne Opera House, the spa town Tunbridge Wells and 1066 country. There is also much to see along the coast where shops, bars and restaurants beckon in Brighton and Eastbourne. The nearest railway station is only 6 minutes’ drive with direct access to London in just over one hour. Shop 2 miles, pub serving good food just a 5-minute walk.

  1. Well looked after Had a guided tour of the property which was much appreciated. Sept 2012.
  2. Mrs Cooper was lovely. She took the time to explain everything to us and give us ideas of places to visit. Fabulous! Sept 2012.
  3. Every whim of a visitor was catered for: from arrival cakes (wonderful), bird feeder and binoculars to watch the Picadilly Circus of avian visitors, apple blossom in full display (May) and a amazing array of interesting places to visit in the area. Our hosts were very caring of making sure we had a lovely time, which we did and would without doubt recommend to others! May 2012.
  4. Easter 2012, the property has bee recently refurbished and fitted out. Just about everything that you could need is there on arrival, even down to binoculars to watch the birds, i-pod dock and DVD’s. A nice setting in woodland with good walking country. A very nice weekend. April 2012.
  5. Excellent property - cosy and perfectly equipped - ideal for a romantic getaway. Set in an ideal location to explore the South Downs. Owner was very welcoming and cakes were greatly appreciated. Explored the grounds that the cottage is set in and managed to see some wild deer. Highly recommended. Feb 2012.
  6. A cheery welcome from the owner made us feel at home. The property is immaculate and a real gem. The only drawback is the low ceiling in the bathroom, otherwise it’s a real 5 star cottage. Dec 2011.
  7. A most enjoyable short break in peaceful surroundings staying in a very comfortable cottage. The surrounding area has much of interest with lovely walks, places to visit and proximity to the coast making it an ideal location. The Buxted Inn and The Hurstwood both provided very good food. Oct 2011.
  8. It was a beautiful cottage in an ideal hideaway location, but not to far from local towns so you are able to do some shopping if necessary. A good sized bedroom and nice sized living room. I would definitely stay here again. Oct 2011.
  9. This was a really lovely property in a quiet location. The cottage was very clean and well equipped and an extremely comfortable base for our holiday. The property owner was extremely friendly and helpful, she provided cakes when we arrived and rang the local pubs to see if they were open so we could eat there. Would strongly recommend this property. Sept 2011.
  10. A cosy & comfortable cottage with every mod. con. and set in a beautiful and quiet location. Ideal for visiting Brighton, Beachy Head and the many National Trust properties nearby. Also a good base for walkers with the Ashdown forest and South downs within a short distance. June 2011.
  11. Excellent standard of cleanliness and comfort. Shower good but not suitable for anyone over 5’ 10" as there is a sloping roof. Blackberry Farm a wonderful day out for the under tens and Grannies. Will definately return to both venues. May 2011.
  12. A very pleasant and modern property, set in idyllic, quiet countryside. A peaceful haven to relax! 17. The location was ideal, with a great decor and a lot of thought into all the amenities you need which were well covered. Also the owners were very helpful and pleasant. We couldn’t have asked for a better holiday home. May 2010.
  18. Everything - location, standard of property, extemely well equipped, outside space, information provided in property and by owner. Only downside was the sloping roof in the bathroom, my husband is 6’ 1" and struggled a little with this! May 2010.
  19. Everything we could possibly have wanted for our stay was provided - even some tea and cakes when we arrived! April 2010.
  20. We were impressed by what was provided in such a small cottage, even J cloths and tea towels. The amount of utensils and crockery was also impressive. Extras were provided such as homemade cakes and provision for afternoon tea on arrival + a copy of the Radio Times. I would not hesitate to recommend this property. Oct 2009.
