Property Description

An absolute must-have holiday for those larger families of all ages wanting a real experience of living on a farm. This traditional spacious farmhouse is set right in the heart of a working farm with 190 acres of land with sheep and cattle grazing in the fields surrounding the farmhouse. There is an opportunity, depending on the season, to join in on this farm and feed the lambs, collect the eggs, watch the sheep shearing, pick fruit and vegetables and identify nature all around. The farmhouse is supplied with its own private spring water. Previous visitors have thoroughly enjoyed the farm life and country living – and many an evening picnic has been had sitting on top of the hill overlooking the farmhouse. This is a delightful house for families of all ages, at any time of year. It is spacious and well-equipped with a large living room made cosy by the wood burner and a traditional large kitchen complete with large table for everyone to sit around and talk together. The conservatory is another delightful room with views across the fields. There is a four-poster bed in one of the bedrooms, which opens out into an outside sitting area. The farm itself is near Totnes, midway between the wild open spaces of Dartmoor and the lovely South Devon coastline scattered with hidden coves and sandy beaches. A walk across the fields leads to the local shop which stocks a huge range of locally produced foods, and there is a pub and post office in the same village. There really is a little bit of everything in this area – always somewhere to go or something to do. A day on the beach can be spent at Slapton or Beesands, or visits made to the maritime town of Dartmouth. Totnes is a vibrant, fun town, especially on a Friday when it is market day. A drive up on to Dartmoor reveals rugged windswept moorland with high tors and low valleys, where ponies run free. Salcombe makes for a good day out, watching the yachts sailing in and out of the estuary, whilst further afield are the larger cities of Exeter and Plymouth (which has a spectacular waterfront and is steeped in history). Shop 1 mile.

  1. Great house on a working farm, comfortable and contained everything we needed. July 2012.
  2. Really quiet location, great place for children with plenty of farm animals and a really friendly farmer and family. Would visit again. June 2012.
  3. We particularly enjoyed the welcome from.the owners, and their continued interest in our comfort during our stay. A beautifully restored old farmhouse in a lovely spot. April 2012.
  4. A lovely rural retreat! The owners are very welcoming and very happy to help with any enquiries we had. March 2012.
  5. The location is heavenly; surrounded by fields of sheep we awoke to the sounds of bleating lambs looking for their mums. Our hosts could not have been friendlier, we collected our own eggs, watched lambs being born and fed them. Our granddaughters did not want to leave-neither did we! April 2011.
  6. Clean and practical for two families with small children. Aug 2010.
  7. Stonehills provides a very special kind of welcome where one feels part of the farm as much as wanted. The owners were lovely and the individual touches in the house such as the dressing up drawer and fresh flowers really added to the feel of the holiday. I was also impressed with the follow up from your company about disabled access needs in our party as our son is a wheelchair user. April 2009.
  8. Best equipped rented accommodation we have ever stayed in. May 2009.
  9. I have stayed in self-catering accommodation such as this for several years. This is certainly the best property I have stayed in, in terms of the way in which it was presented, cleanliness, facilities and layout particularly in the kitchen (important with 5 children!). A wonderful property to which we shall return! July 2009.
  10. Very friendly and helpful owners. Aug 2007.
  11. Accommodation was excellent with wonderful living room area centered around a fireplace for relaxing in front of - ideal for parties wanting a countryside experience - the farm was fascinating! Great for walking with some good locals pubs within walking distance. Owners were extremely friendly and helpful and we felt welcome throughout. Would recommend a visit very highly and would like to return. Dec 2007.
  12. Ideal set-up for a family, peaceful and quiet, congenial hosts and plenty of activities within a short drive. Sept 2007.
