Property Description

Set on a working farm, this detached stone barn is located just 6 miles from historic Ludlow and lies on the edge of the village of Stoke St Milborough, which nestles between the Clee Hill and the Brown Clee Hills in south Shropshire, in an AONB. Stoke Court farm Barn is decorated and furnished to a high standard, whilst retaining many original features including beams and stable walls. It offers beautiful family accommodation with additional faciities for disabled guests, and makes an excellent holiday base for exploring the local area.
The 200-acre farm is a working beef and sheep farm, and within the grounds of the holiday barn is a newly discovered 17th-century formal garden with its prospect viewing mound. There is also a Sensory Garden to stimulate sound, sight, touch and smell. The latter has been developed in association with DEFRA.
Nearby, historic Ludlow provides a wealth of interest for any visitor. John Betjeman described it as ‘the loveliest town in England’. Country Life also paid tribute, calling it ‘the most vibrant small town in the country’. It has lively markets, food fairs and speciality shops. There are many Michelin restaurants and Ludlow has rightly become known as the gastronomic capital of Shropshire. The Ludlow Marches Food and Drink Festival is held every September. The town boasts over 500 listed buildings, mostly Georgian or half-timbered houses as well as a castle, once the home of kings, now a centre for festivals, events and open-air theatre performances.
An unusual day out can be enjoyed at the Secret Hills Discovery Centre, which traces the geological history of the Shropshire Hills, and is housed in an unusual turf-roofed building designed to echo the hill forts found in the surrounding countryside. A simulated hot air balloon flight over the Wrekin in the north to the Stiperstones in the south forms the central attraction of the Centre. A good day out can also be had at the Acton Scott working farm and musuem. Leominster, Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Ironbridge and mid-Wales are all within easy driving distance. Fishing, walking, horse riding are all available and Ludlow golf course incorporates the Ludlow National Hunt Racecourse. Shop 6 miles.

  2. Beautiful accommodation, very clean and loads of space. Disabled facilities were excellent, and was lovely to see the animals on the farm too. April 2012.
  3. Hosts were very welcoming and helpful with advice about local places and facilities. We were there at lambing time, and had a delightful time observing their antics. The kitchen was well equipped and bedrooms very comfortable. we would certainly recommend this place to our friends. March 2012.
  4. There was plenty of space. The accommodation was very comfortable and the owners extremely friendly and welcoming without being intrusive. We all had a great time. Feb 2012.
  5. This is a stunning property, and very large. It is set in a working far, with beautiful countryside surrounding it. Ludlow is easily accessible, and would definitely recommend this location. The landlord is also very friendly and helpful. Feb 2012.
  6. Had a fantastic time. Group of ten friends everything we needed was provided and would visit again. Jan 2012.
  7. The property was perfect: large, clean, warm, comfortable and in a peaceful location, but in easy reach of Ludlow and the food delights available there. The proprietress was extremely helpful and friendly and the holiday was perfect (we stayed over New Year - family get-together). Dec 2011.
  8. The property is large enough to take an extended family, and the bedroom accommodation has added flexibility with the provision of a put-up folding bed and a cot. There is ample equipment in the kitchen. We were given a lovely welcome by the proprietor, who could not have been kinder to us during our stay. Her friendly farm dog proved an admirable playmate to the children in our party; and the tiny stream in the garden and the friendly sheep in the next door field were an added attraction. This is a truly unspoilt beautiful bit of countryside, an ideal spot for a relaxed holiday. June 2011.
  9. The barn is lovely and the owners were very welcoming. The kitchen is really well equipped and there was plenty of linen etc provided so no need to worry about taking any of that with you. There is a lovely big dining table which was great to eat all of our meals around - it wasn’t visible from the photos so that was a nice surprise when we got there. The baby lambs at the end of the garden a good surprise too! May 2011.
  10. We loved the large spacious accommodation and the excitement for the children of being on a working farm. Feb 2011.
  11. Well equipped and clean. Dec 2010.
  12. Well presented, friendly owner. The cottage was well lit & warm on our arrival. Nov 2010.
  13. Great location. Plenty of rooms. Margaret couldn’t have been more helpful. Just wonderful. Oct 2010.
  14. It was warm and cosy. Oct 2010.
  15. The location and the peacefulness, the working farm environment and the friendliness of the owners. Aug 2010.
  16. Lovely cottage, really nice owners. June 2010.
  17. Kitchen/dining/living room open plan - ideal for a group reunion! Lovely setting for children, on the farm. Nice selection of board games to play. April 2010.
  18. The barn/cottage was wonderful. We felt instantly at home and being on a lively livestock farm was excellent. Having new-born lambs playing around a few feet from the back door was delightful but if you had wanted to shut the farm out (not that we did!), it would have been quite easy to do so. The bedrooms were excellent - clean, well equipped, with modern fittings. The owners could not have been nicer - they had so much time for us. Would recommend this superb place to anyone wanting to enjoy the beautiful Shropshire countryside. April 2010.
  19. We were a party of 8 adults in a property to accommodate 10/12 so we had plenty of space & 4 bathrooms this was great. March 2010.
  20. Everything was very comfortable and very warm and furnished to a high standard. We also received 2 bottles of wine which was very welcome! Feb 2010.
