Sympathetically converted to a very good standard, situated in the grounds of the owner’s 16th-century thatched farmhouse, these character cottages are well equipped, comfortable and cosy; perfect for a romantic break at any time of year. Located in a tranquil setting with views over adjoining paddocks, gardens and open countryside, guests can enjoy a relaxing and peaceful holiday in this get away from it all location.
Al fresco dining is available in the picnic area or enjoy a coffee and a quiet read in the renovated ’cigar shack’, whilst for the more active there is a covered games area with pool table, table tennis and darts. Ideally situated in the rural heart of Suffolk to discover the many and varied local attractions. The Roman road leads east to the Heritage Coast, with the Blyth and Alde Estuaries, and the charming resorts of Southwold and Aldeburgh. To the west lies Bury St Edmunds, with its cathedral, abbey gardens and lively market. Further west is racing at Newmarket and Cambridge. Wander south and enjoy the picturesque ’Wool Towns’, Lavenham, Constable Country, the RSPB reserve at Minsmere, Colchester’s award winning zoo, boating at Thorpeness and the Saxon village at West Stow. Good cycling and walking. Food lovers will enjoy a visit to nearby Alder Carr Farm or the Chilli Farm. There are country houses, antique and craft centres, museums, golf and horse riding within easy reach. All properties meet VisitEngland’s Gold Award standard. Stable Cottage (4533), Granary Cottage (5053), Chaff Cottage (5054) and Harness Cottage (14742) can be booked together to accommodate up to 12 guests. Shop 3 miles, pub 2 miles.

  1. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner was very friendly and obliging. She has acquired the property relatively recently and is updating both decor and facilities, which were already of a good standard. Aug 2011.
  2. With the new owner being there only 7 weeks some changes, are being introduced, i.e. linen now provided without cost. Also I found it easier after leaving the A14 at J50 to follow the A1020(First left travelling from Bury St Edmonds) towards Lowestoft and then turn right into Mill Lane by a disused mill, follow Mill lane to the entry to Upper Langdale Farm. Jo gave us a lovely homely welcome and some very personal touches and we hope to return one day. We have already recommended Jo’s properties to friends who also want to try somewhere different. The cottage was positioned in a brilliant location - if you want peace, quiet and nature.The cottage was lovely and the landlady made us feel very welcome - complimentary wonderful chocolate cake, milk, cheese and bread. The gardens are currently being revamped but the greenery, trees and gardens are beautiful .The location although isolated is easily within distance of other places of interest and beauty. There was a very good guide/directions to supermarkets gp.hospital etc. Your own transport is a must .The exact location of the farmhouse was difficult to find re the address but the landlady was going to sort. June 2011

  5. Lovely place off the beaten track in a really peaceful rural location. Being in mid Suffolk there is easy access to the coast and places like Needham Market and Stowmarket a stones throw away. It was change over time with the new owner just settling in and the old owner staying in one of the other properties but both were really helpful with the owner’s house just next door. Really recommend it. May 2011.
