Property Description

Enjoy a relaxing holiday surrounded by countryside in these barn conversions which have been decorated and fitted to a very good standard. They are situated on the owners’ working arable farm, and guests are welcome to use the footpaths crossing the farmland. Take a few steps back in time to the year of 1193 AD when you view the abbey ruins, once bustling with French monks. During the dissolution of the monasteries, Henry VIII had many stones removed from the abbey to build his fortifications at Deal and Walmer. Follow in the monks’ footsteps, (today a 20 minute car journey), and take a trip to Canterbury. Dover is 5 minutes’ drive, ideal for day trips to France or to visit its castle and admire the famous white cliffs. The properties are perfectly situated for walking and bird watching, with several good sandy beaches close by. Monks & Flint barns are adjoining. The Stables & Nell’s Barn are detached. Shop and pub 1½ miles.

Ground floor: Living room with wooden floor. Dining room/kitchen with tiled floor. 4 bedrooms: 2 double, both with en-suite shower room and toilet, 2 twin. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Separate toilet. Open tread stairs to first floor: 1 twin bedroom with sloping ceiling and en-suite shower room with toilet. Open tread stairs to galleried games room.

Woodburner in living room included. Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot. High chair on request. Digital TV. DVD/CD and small library. Playstation. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washer/dryer. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi.Telephone-on request. Fenced garden and furniture. Barbecue. Ample parking. Games room with pool table and playstation. Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. After a wonderful week staying in the barn it was hard to leave and come home. It was set within beautiful surroundings, within easy reach of the numerous attractions. We had great days out at Dover castle, Leeds castle, Howletts animal park, Canterbury and a cross channel trip to Paris (just two hours from Ashford). The owners were extremely welcoming and the barn had everything we needed and more. It can easily accommodate up to 10 people in comfort. The children (big & small) enjoyed the mezzanine games room with the pool table and play station. A return visit is definitely on the cards. Oct 2012.
  2. Perfect place to celebrate a very special family occasion accommodating four generations, each with their different needs. Sue was helpful and sorted the extras we requested. The farmers who I meet were very welcoming. My mother will certainly remember with affection the celebration of her 80th birthday. Sept 2012.
  3. Nell’s Barn was far more than I expected. It was just wonderful. After a family wedding in the area it was nice to relax here. The location was ideal for our needs. Lots of walks and not too far from Dover to enable us to stock up the larder. We would recommend this to anyone who wants to spend a holiday with family and freinds. July 2012.
  4. Nell’s Barn is spacious, well maintained (inside and outside) and part of a small complex of farm buildings which have been converted to a very high standard. Welcome pack was a lovely surprise. Games room provided additional fun. Plenty of crockery, glassware, cutlery and kitchenware so no need to wash up every time - just used the dishwasher once a day. Beautiful outlook from enclosed garden with plenty of seating on patio area. Owner visited us on first evening to ensure we were happy with property and was available on site but did not interfer in any way. Also came to say goodbye on last morning. Location was quiet but very close to English Heritage properties (Dover Castle/Walmer Castle) and good beaches as well as other places of interest. Village of River just a few minutes’ drive away with bigger supermarkets on outskirts of Dover. Great location - great holiday. June 2012.
  5. The property suited us perfectly as it was used to get 3 family units together, one from S. America who we do not get to see very often. The central lounge was great for the 4 children and the upstairs bedroom excellent for grandparents to escape to! We were made very welcome by the owner. May 2012.
  6. The property was finished to a very high standard and fitted with everything you required. It was very spacious and the layout meant that you had your own space. The complimentary biscuits and wine plus T bags and milk was a nice touch. April 2012.
  7. Nell’s Barn was a great property to stay in. The whole family went for Chritmas week, we were welcomed with a lovely and warm property the owners even left a bottle of bubbly to welcome us. It was exceptionally clean and the owners were friendly and helpful. The walks and views are lovely especially if you have dogs. It’s was a great place to stay for a large family gathering and would recommend it. Dec 2011.
  8. Booking a self catering holiday for 8 or more is very difficult to accommodate everyone’s needs. Nell’s Barn more than met all needs, including an excess of silverware, pots, seating. The only suggestion is that the main bathroom off the kitchen have installed an over the tub shower for those who prefer a shower to a bath. That way, whatever you wish bath/shower is available. Sept 2011.
  9. Wonderful property so much space, my boys 10 & 13 loved the pool table, they only touched the PS2 once despite all the games left by the owners - and we had mini pool tournaments each night, a fantastic family venue. The location was so quiet you would never know you were within a few miles of the main town. An added bonus was the wood burner made it very cosy. Aug 2011.
  10. Nell’s Barn best cottage we have stayed in. Eight of us usually go for a week’s fishing holiday/family catch-up once a year. We all agreed Nell’s Barn was great, especially three en-suites, the pool table, cleanliness - just everything was excellent. June 2011.
  11. A good ’country location’ but still close to all the areas attractions. Accommodation spacious and to a very high standard. Highly recommended. June 2011.
  12. The welcome pack was very... well, welcome! The information pack provided a wide range of very helpful detail - one of the most detailed and friendly information packs we’ve read - and we’ve read a fair few! We were made very welcome by our host, Sue. We had three young children in our party, and made good use of the excellent playground at Kearsney Abbey. Samphire Hoe is worth a visit: a pleasant, if breezy, walk to a secluded stony beach. Folkestone has a beach, popular with the local teenage binge drinkers. If only we’d found the beach at East Wear Bay earlier! Walmer Castle is worth a visit, as is the cinque port town of Sandwich, and the National Trust walks above Dover Harbour. April 2011.
  13. Clean spacious and an excellent venue for a large family gathering at Christmas - especially nice touch was a 10 foot Xmas tree which made the room very Christmassy! Dec 2010.
  14. Nells Barn is well maintained and equipped. It is in delightful surroundings within easy reach of amenities yet in a quiet rural setting, grounds were immaculate. A very warm and friendly welcome on arrival and the goodbye on departure. It was certainly one of if not the best holiday accommodation we have rented. Oct 2010.
  15. Excellent facilities, better than advertised. Tea and biscuits on arrival and bottle of wine, so good. Oct 2010.
  16. A Beautiful barn set in a beautiful area. Very nice touch of a bottle of Rose on arrival. Everyone had a lovely time only wish I stayed for longer. Sep 2010.
  17. The accommodation was of a very high standard and the owners were very helpful. Aug 2010.
  18. Excellent layout for a large family holiday. Pool room was a great addition and enclosed back garden great for the kids. July 2010.
  19. The Barn was so spacious and a wonderful home away from home! June 2010.
  20. Absolutely superb accommodation; very comfortable and spacious, yet cosy and relaxed; beautifully made furniture and fittings (great craftsmanship on the doors) and all hardwood; well equipped kitchen and good heating; super games room on mezzanine; lovely location with good woodland walks; very friendly and helpful owners; really fantastic experience all round. May 2010.
