Property Description

Located in the village of Hook Norton, this Grade II listed holiday cottage is documented as having been part of a malthouse in the 17th century and is situated in the heart of the village. One of a row, it has been lovingly restored and retains many character features which include old stone floors and walls. Village life revolves around the old Norman church, quaint pubs and the village shop, which provides for guests’ daily needs. Hook Norton is best known for its Victorian Tower Brewery, the only remaining steam driven brewery still in operation in the UK. Other places of interest to visit include Stow-on-the-Wold (15 miles), Bourton-on-the-Water (19 miles) and Stratford-upon-Avon (23 miles). Shop and village inn 150 yards.

  2. A perfect, cosy little getaway - a beautiful renovated cottage which I definitely want to go back to. Quiet spot but everything was in walking distance, a couple of nice and friendly pubs in the village, well stocked shop and post office... and we recommend you visit the brewery and take the tour! The cottage was a delight - warm and comfortable, perfect for 2, and we felt very much at home. Loved the rayburn - you just need to be organised! The only thing I could possibly suggest would be a welcome pack of milk, bread, butter, tea bags etc... would have been that extra special touch which would have made it perfect. Picky perhaps? Feb 2012.

  4. Very cosy and quiet with very friendly and helpful locals. Great pubs all within walking distance with good food. Very helpful owner when contacting to discuss entry arrangements. We were both reluctant to leave and plan to go again. Liked it so much we are planning to move there. Aug 2011.
  5. We had an amazing holiday. The cottage is in an idyllic setting and is a perfect size for two and a dog. The decor is lovely and very well equipped. The weather couldn’t have been better and we loved going to the local pub for food and refreshment! The location is excellent for day trips, so many interesting places are only 40 minutes away.   6. My wife and I were very pleased with Squirrel Cottage. The village was very convenient (multiple pubs - with excellent food) and a very good village store. Driving in the immediate area of the Cottage was pretty good - especially for an overseas visitor driving on the "wrong" side of the road. The next door neighbours were very helpful when we had some unexpected trouble with our cell phone and had to switch to email to try and straighten it out. July 2011.

  9. This is a nice cottage in a lovely, quiet, village location. It’s an ideal location from which to explore the Cotswolds. The Rayburn is tricky and requires a lot of forward planning so we ended up eating our main meal at lunchtime whilst we were out and about. Otherwise, the cottage is well equipped and laid out.
