Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. The property is in a very quiet location, although not much of a view as surrounded by trees and the nursery. The property is well appointed, although more effort could be made to provide a second shower in the double room. The main critism was the lack of information about the place. No-one showed us round or explained anything to us and the notes that were left were not very clear or helpful e.g.a parking disc was left but we weren’t told when or where we could use it. Also no fuel provided for wood burning stove, but no info on where to get any from. July 2012.
  2. An absolutely wonderful place to stay, very secluded and quiet. The owners were friendly but not intrusive and have a good eye for the little touches which make a real difference. The cottage was spotlessly clean, very well equipped and very well finished. The weather was good whilst we were there and it was brilliant to be able to open the doors wide and let our daughter have complete freedom on the enclosed deck. Would highly recommend and hope to visit again ourselves. March 2012.
  3. The property was a newly completed single storey oak framed barn on and owned by a plant nursery. The entire back of the property consisted of full height open able glass doors, which gave the cottage a light and airy feel. The doors opened onto full width wooden decking. There was also a single stable next to the cottage which gave the added interest of a horse. The owners dog was very friendly to. The owners adopted a no contact policy unless there was a problem which was good. We met the owners as they were planting trees and they were very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was excellent very comfortable and clean and I think that we can honesty say that this is one of the best holiday cottages that we have stayed in and can highly recommend it to others. We shall definitely return to West Sussex as we loved the cottage and the South Downs. The location was excellent situated on a nursery although detached from the business area, down a quiet attractive country lane with lots of wooded areas. A good pub was also located at Ashurst just a short drive down the road. Feb 2012.
  4. Lovely rural setting, very peaceful and comfortable. Virtually new barn conversion which was well appointed and comfortable. Dec 2011.
  5. Tea was laid out, along with home made cake. Excellent accommodation, the barn was done out beautifully. Oct 2011.
  6. The Old Carthouse was a delight to stay in - it’s tastefully decorated, with sensitively designed lighting for evenings, and well equipped. After staying at ’heart sinking’ cottages in the past (not through ’Cottages4You’!) this means a great deal. I appreciated the extra touches too - the beautifully planted pots on the outside decking (eye catching even though it was October), the vase of fresh flowers in the house itself, and the tea and cake set out for our arrival. The location was wonderfully tranquil. My only suggestion is one that would take some time to put into effect - and that is, that a bit more greenery screening the cottage from the nursery buildings would enhance the view from the cottage; but this is only a minor point. Oct 2011.
  7. A peaceful rural retreat in a modern and characterful barn style cottage with friendly and thoughtful owners and a warren of rabbits! West and East Sussex and coasts have activities, walks and places to visit in abundance. Aug 2011.
