Smithy Cottage

| Ref: CC539030
Grade 3 Star rating

Staying at Smithy Cottage is a perfect excuse to discover the unique and special experiences which make a holiday in North Ayrshire a great choice. It can be three different holidays all rolled into one. A short drive from the glorious city of Glasgow; the beautiful coastline is just down the road and the cottage is set within pastoral countryside; the choice is yours. Dating back to the Victorian era, this friendly cottage offers cosy and comfortable accommodation. The National Cycle Network 7 passes by the front door and from here you can link to Network 73 cycling to Ardrossan and Largs, where it is possible to board the ferry to Arran and Cumbrae. To experience the real Ayrshire, put on your walking boots and take to the paths where you will see historic castles and ancient monuments. The walk to the summit of Baidlandhill offers a superb panorama across the Firth of Clyde and is well worth the 1000ft climb. Ayrshire’s landscapes are so varied, ranging from lush rolling hillsides to white sandy shores, majestic craggy cliffs and caves, dramatic moorlands and magnificent seascapes with the beautiful islands as a backdrop. The Isle of Arran offers a Highlands in miniature from wildlife and views and challenging mountains for the intrepid, to rich heritage, ancient stones and the island’s own distillery and brewery. The Cathedral of the Isles on Great Cumbrae is Britain’s smallest cathedral. The vibrant city of Glasgow offers so many exciting possibilities. However, it has a natural side, as Glasgow translates from the Gaelic as ’deer green place’. The city has many beautiful park and gardens. As a former European Capital of Culture you will be amazed at the highlands on offer. The Burrell Collection has an astonishing array of beautiful objects from around the world and the city also bears testament to Charles Rennie Mackintosh - one of its greatest and most famous sons. There is also the world renowned Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. There really is something for every taste and age and as a UNESCO City of Music, Glasgow hosts a wide programme of events throughout the year. Glasgow offers some of the best shopping in the UK from flagship stores to a veritable treasure trove of boutiques and antique shops. For foodies the city is home to many cosmopolitan restaurants where the menus are full of delicious, fresh and local produce. There is a fantastic range of modern pubs and bars where you can enjoy the atmosphere as well as the chance to create your very own blend of whisky at the Glengoyne Distillery.
