Property Description

This super, spacious, newly built, light filled bungalow is just the ticket for exploring the ancient town of Sanquhar and the lovely Scottish region of Dumfries & Galloway. Sanquhar was originally called ’Sean Caer’ meaning ’old fort’ or ’old castle’ in the Geltic tongue. Today the castle lies in ruins next to Scotland’s much loved coast to coast walk, the Southern Upland Way, which runs from Portpatrick in the west to Cockburnspath in the east. Sanquhar is the site of the world’s oldest Post Office and the old town is steeped in history including the imposing Tolbooth, which was erected in 1735 at the instigation of Charles Duke of Queensberry and designed by William Adam. For fans of the great Robbie Burns, Sanquhar lies on the Burns Heritage Trail which begins at his boyhood home in Alloway and takes in Ellisland, his former home in Dumfries & Galloway. Burns drew his inspiration from the area’s wild and dramatic landscapes, its towns and its people.

All gas, electricity and bed linen included. First supply of fuel for stove provided. No children under 8 years old please.Patio area with garden furniture, garage for storage of fishing rods, bicycles, etc. Off road parking for 2 cars.
