Property Description

Situated on the edge of the hamlet of East Down, and adjoining the owner’s beautiful Georgian home, this pretty holiday cottage enjoys a quiet and peaceful location, yet is close to all the area’s main attractions. The cottage has a wealth of character, including flagstone floors, beams and inglenook fireplace, with wood-burning stove.

  4. Well equipped cottage that was more spacious than normal for a property that sleeps 4. Welcoming tea tray, excellent carrot cake, and eggs were a lovely touch. Garden safe for the dogs who enjoyed pottering in and out. Felt very private and not overlooked even though the owner is in the adjoining property. Enjoyed our stay in spite of the variable weather, (hot tub a welcome extra), and would rebook to return. June 2011.
  5. This year was our second visit to Shortacombe. We love the cottage as there were no restrictions for our Beagles. Secure garden and our Beagles could go anywhere in the cottage. Cottage in beautiful countyside and not far from our favourite beaches at Woolacombe and Saunton Sands. May 2011.
  6. Upon reaching the cottage we bought some free range goose eggs from the road side. When we arrived at the cottage the owner had made some terrific carrot cake and also left us with some of her free range hens eggs - really nice touch. We did not get to use the spa as every day on our return to the cottage the weather was not warm enough. May 2011.

  11. Excellent accommodation, even though connected to the main property it was very private. Hot tub amazing - my dog loved the enclosed garden and it was nice to be able to keep the door open and know that he was safe to wander in and out as he pleased. Very cosy and lovely for 2 people. Very remote though and nearest mobile signal was half an hour drive away - which was great for us. June 2010.
  12. The cottage was absolutely beautiful with lots of character and the facilities were brilliant (hot tub, wood burner). We have been greeted with a basket of fresh eggs and a nice piece of cake by the owner and we really liked it as we had privacy and our dog loved the secluded garden. There were so many beaches around (a short drive to all of them)... we were spoilt for choices. In the cottage,the owner provided us with lots of information about the area and the beautiful walks around the country side. We will be definitely returning. March 2010.
  13. The cottage was very light and airy. We were very warm inside even though there was snow and ice outside. I fell in love with the cottage and could easily make it my home. The hot tub was the icing on the cake. We enjoyed looking up at the stars with champagne in hand. Dec 2009.

  16. It was very tastefully furnished, with pretty individual items of furniture, stone floors and not twee in any way. Aug 2009.
  17. Very quiet location which is what we wanted. Didn’t like the fact that the double bedroom was not cut off from the the bathroom. The bedroom was effectively ’on the landing’. This didn’t spoil our enjoyment of the holiday however. Though excessive, much of the holiday information was out of date. Sept 2009.
  18. The accomodation fully lived up to our expectations. Perfect for our 10 month old white german shepherd puppy having our own garden. The cottage was cosy and nicely decorated and the wood burner and jacuzzi a great bonus. The owners were welcoming, friendly and helpful. A great holiday in a beautiful county. Highly reccomended.
