Property Description

Situated at the top of the picturesque village of Runswick Bay and offering secluded gardens and parking, this delightful detached holiday cottage enjoys views across the cliff tops down to the sea. A tumble of pretty little cottages, almost clinging to the cliffs, leads down to the wide sandy beach at the bottom of the bay, surrounded and sheltered by the rugged cliff line. Cliff top walks afford breathtaking views across the North Yorkshire coastline as far as the historic port of Whitby, known for its connections with Captain James Cook and the novel of Dracula, written by Bram Stoker. Dracula was published in 1897 with many of the early chapters recognisably set in Whitby - the various sites including Tate Hill Sands, the abbey, the church and its steps, the graveyard and Stoker’s house which have all become huge tourist attractions and are well worth a visit. The Captain Cook Memorial Museum and the Whitby Lifeboat Museum are also of interest. The North Yorkshire Moors National Railway can be boarded to discover the delights and beauty of the Esk Valley, travelling through Heartbeat’s very own village of Aidensfield. This truly is an ideal location for exploring Yorkshire’s Heritage coastline with Whitby just 9 miles and Filey and Bridlington a little further. Scarborough is also located on this coastline and is the oldest resort in the country, offering Scarborough Castle, just east of the town centre and between two golden sandy bays, many interesting museums and of course the bays with many amusements, Sea Life Centre, cruises and boat trips. The beauty of the North Yorkshire Moors National Parks await exploration, with pretty little villages such as Lealholm, Rosedale, Egton, Danby and Castleton tucked away in the valleys. Shop 1½ miles.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. We have stayed at Seacot previously and thoroughly enjoyed our stay as we have again and no doubt will visit again in the future. May 2012.
  2. Extremely well equipped; ideally situated for the coast and walks. Prior experience with an AGA could be useful but soon learn how to cope with it. April 2012.
  3. The cottage was beautiful. We walked in the door after a longish journey (partly in the rain) and everything was spotlessly clean and the owners had thought of everything. I loved the garden and I may say the AGA and the views from the windows out towards the sea were lovely. I would definitely recommend this cottage to friends and was one of the best self catering accommodation we have ever stayed in. I think it should be 5tar not 4 star! The only downer was the weather which was wet, cold, and windy. Oh well, it is England after all. April 2012.
  4. A great cottage, close to beach. our 2nd visit has everything we needed. May 2011.
  5. The owners have gone out of their way to provide a spotless holiday home with everything you need from teabags to a chilled bottle of wine - exceeded expectations. Oct 2010.
  6. Everything was just perfect. Nov 2010.
  7. A lovely cottage very close to beach. Great extras. A real find. Aug 2010.
  8. This property had absolutely everything that you could possibly need on holiday, from tea & coffee, to dishwasher and laundry tablets - even charcoal for the barbie. Meticulous attention to detail by the owners who I found to be very friendly, helpful and informative. July 2010.
  9. Very well equipped, excellent location, nicely furnished, very comfortable. July 2010.
  10. The location was perfect, close to the sea and to the local bus. June 2010.

  15. Excellent location - well positioned in terms of access to lovely beaches and amenities, with gorgeous views across countryside to sea, beautifully clean, well resourced and excellent hospitality with extremely friendly and hospitable owners. Aug 2009.
  16. The property is situated a few minutes walk from the beach which delighted our grandchildren. It is also only 8 miles to the seaside town of Whitby As already stated it is hard to fault this property. Standards have not been compromised in this property. June 2009.
  17. This was our third consecutive year at ’Seacot’. The property is exceptional and immaculate throughout. Everything has been provided to ensure your stay is an enjoyable one. June 2009.
  18. Overall, the accommodation in the cottage was excellent. It had a lovely AGA cooker and many positive aspects. Aug 2008.
