Property Description

With superb views across the Inner Sound to the Inner Hebridean Islands of Raasay, Rona and Skye, this 19th-century holiday cottage has been architecturally renovated to a high standard, and has its own landscaped garden with decking leading down to the seashore.
Set amidst some of Scotland’s most dramatic and rugged scenery, Applecross nestles between mountains and sea and is approached over Britain’s highest road pass. Wester Ross has long been considered one of the more remote corners of the British mainland – and is still known as a haven of enormous beauty and tranquillity; Applecross was declared a sanctuary in 673 AD by the Irish monk Maelrubha. The region is home to the golden eagle and pine marten – and the last remnants of the ancient Caledonian pine forest. To the north is the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve (Torridon mountains) where the NTS Countryside Centre provides opportunity to explore the flora, fauna and history of this sheltered fertile area amidst some of the oldest geological formations in Britain. Also north of the Applecross Peninsula are the world-famous sub-tropical Inverewe Gardens, and to the south the picturesque NTS village of Plockton and the Isle of Skye.
The area provides excellent coastal walks and abundant wildlife – seals are frequently seen in the indented coastline, and stags roam the heather-clad hillsides of the Applecross Peninsula. More occasionally porpoises and even the mysterious profile of a submarine lurks in the Inner Sound. Rockpools left behind by the tide provide a great variety of creatures for children to discover. Beautiful sandy bay within 5 miles (see bottom photograph). Mountaineering, kayaking and landrover trips can be arranged locally. The award winning Applecross Inn, renowned for its locally caught seafood and convivial hospitality, is just 10-minutes walk away. Shop 1 mile.

Spacious panelled and beamed living/dining room with open fire and rugs on wooden floor. Well-equipped kitchen. Utility/drying room. Twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom and toilet. First floor: Three bedrooms with sloping ceilings, two with beamed ceilings; two double, each with en-suite bathroom and toilet, and one twin with en-suite shower room and toilet.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. We are regular visitors to this property and never tire of the fantastic scenery, excellent local food and friendly people. The cottage is just ideal for all our needs: warm, comfortable and sociable. A great place for a family get together. Sept 2012.
  2. We feel like we got the best spot in the area. We had the sea at the bottom of our garden, the whole of the area at our disposal, and the only pub and shop for 20 miles within walking distance. Our age range was from 6 to 60 and we all had an excellent time. July 2012.
  3. This is an excellent, roomy, comfortable cottage set in a fantastic location with access to the shore and spectacular views across the bay to Skye and Raasay. It is convenient for many local walks and the Applecross Inn, which serves excellent food, is just a few minutes walk away. May 2012.
  4. This is a fabulously remote location. It is helpful to know that there is a small shop including post office within one mile which is open 6 days a week. Also a butcher (tel. 01520 722 229) delivers on Tuesdays and a local fisherman (tel. 01520 744 313 delivers on Thursdays. April 2012.
  5. We are regular visitors to this property and we appreciate that things are continually being replaced and upgraded as necessary. It shows that the owner cares about this holiday home. Sept 2011.
  6. A fantastic location. House was really well equipped for two families. We did not want for anything. Even the weather was great. Food and atmosphere at near by Applecross Inn was brilliant. July 2011.
  7. A big and very cosy house with very nice fire place. Feb 2011.

  11. Wonderful position and very well equipped. June 2010.
  12. All the facilities we wanted were there. It was a quiet location yet close to the Applecross pub (five minute walk), and close enough to the shop and to the part-time manned petrol station, that you don’t have to make a long journey out of the peninsula to get essentials. May 2010.
  13. It is a fantastic property in a good location. April 2010.
  14. First class cottage with great views and superbly equipped. Sept 2009.
  15. A family home from home. Equipped to a high standard, clean and well kept. Superb views. Aug 2009.
