Property Description

Converted to a high standard, these two barn conversions (Betty’s Cottage DWP, and Ruth’s Cottage DWQ) adjoin one another and are set on a working beef farm, which stands on the Jurassic seam. Offering peace and tranquillity, the setting is a delight for countryside lovers with wonderful open views to be enjoyed from the shared garden and barbecue area. Many footpaths lead from the farm and nearby lanes, and the NCN also runs by the holiday cottages. The properties are set in the heart of Tamara Drewe country with some of the filming from the farm. The popular village of Evershot (Hardy’s Evershed in Tess of the D’Urbervilles) is 2 miles and offers village pub, bakery, and hotel restaurant. Bridport and Dorchester are all a short drive and offer individual shops, pubs and tearooms. The Jurassic coast is 15 miles. Shop 2 miles.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Although not the easiest place to find (if you are following a TomTom it stops you about 200m up the road at another dairy farm and cottages), it’s worth it when you get there. Well maintained property, everyone enjoyed the stay. May 2012.
  2. This property is truly stunning and relaxing. Even though situated on a dairy farm we did not get disturbed once. All local ammenities are close by with the local pub just 1/2 mile. This pub does excellent food and is reccommended. The location is beautiful, surrounded by fields and pure countryside bliss, perfect for a relaxing break away with family. Dec 2011.
  3. Spacious and comfortable - our first holiday with our dog and extended family was made easy in Ruth’s Cottage. We enjoyed a friendly but unobtrusive welcome, and the opportunity to see the calves and enjoy the scenery all around with lots of lovely walks. It is always helpful when condiments are in the kitchen, especially salt for cooking. Nov 2011.
  4. Lovely cottage set in beautiful countryside with wonderful views. The owners Tom & Margaret were great especially shoimg the animals to our granddaughter. Oct 2011.
  5. Very comfortable and well equipped. The owners Tom and Margaret were helpful with information about the farm and area. Aug 2011.
  6. Apart from the occasional cow making a comment, a very peaceful holiday. My grand children want to go back. The play area proved very popular. The owners were very charming and helpful. July 2011.
  7. Great place. Clean and modern. Friendly. Pillow too hard. Would be nice if had wifi. June 2011.
  8. Accommodation was of a good standard for a holiday let. Very clean, owners very friendly. Well situated for Dorset or Somerset day trips. May 2011.
  9. We felt extremely welcome, the surroundings were unique and we were invited to see the cows being milked by Tom the farmer. The couple that run Stake Cottages could not do enough to make our stay a pleasurable one. We found pubs about a 5 minute drive away but not really a waling distance as lanes/roads far too narrow. We did explore the fields down to the river and woodland and had plenty of fields to let the dogs run free. Amazing views across the road, looking over 4 counties. We visited Lyme Regis and Westbay. We dropped our boys off in Bridport to enjoy the skate park facilities. There are great pubs a driveaway and we found The Acorn in the nearest village very nice. April 2011.
  10. It was very well laid out to accommodate 6 adults and the kitchen was well appointed for self catering. It was essential to us that it had 2 toilets for the amount of people. It was near to lots of local attractions and pubs, walks etc. Dec 2010.
  11. This is a lovely place to stay - quiet and with plenty of space to explore (for the children), the house had everything you needed without being fussy. The owner was helpful and friendly but not over the top. Loads and loads of adult and children friendly things to do nearby. Take a decent kitchen knife and chopping board with you, otherwise its got everything. June 2010.
  12. Play area at back of cottage was ideal as visible from within cottage and kept the children busy. March 2010.
  13. Tom & Margaret Symes were excellent hosts. The cottage was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. On entering the cottage it felt like home from home. June 2009.
  14. The cottage exactly met our needs - a family reunion with 3 double bedrooms for 3 married couples. There was plenty of room in which to gather together. March 2009.
  15. Ruth’s Cottage is modern, clean and well furnished. The owners are friendly and accommodating. Sept 2008.
  16. Idyllic rural surroundings, owners welcoming, kind and helpful. Accommodation spotless, cosy and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our family holiday. Aug 2008.
  17. Well equipped don’t need to bring anything. April 2008.
  18. The owners were very welcoming. They were very helpful and encouraged participation on their working farm. I would highly recommend this accommodation and they are also welcome to comments and any helpful information. They are sensitive to everyones individual needs. May 2008.
