17th century character cottage

This charming semi-detached holiday cottage, formerly a monk’s retreat, dates back to 1640 and is full of delightful beams, stone floors and is prettily furnished. Situated above Lake Coniston amongst the woods, through which there is a short path down to the lake, the property is right in the heart of the Lakes National Park. It is situated 2 miles from Coniston with its beautiful and romantic valley surrounded by spectacular scenery, 5 miles from Ambleside with magnificent fells, a mile from Tarn Howes, and with Grizedale Forest behind you, an ideal place to go walking with views of the dales and mountains, and with 60 sculptures across the forest. Windermere is a short ferry trip across the lake, and there is fabulous fell walking, cycling and other activities in the immediate area. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

Ground floor: Living room with flagstone floor/dining room. Kitchen with flagstone floor. First floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Beams throughout.

Open fire in living room (initial fuel included). Oil central heating, electricity and bed linen included. DVD and small library. Stereo/CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Dishwasher. Lawned garden with patio and furniture. Parking (2 cars). No smoking.

  1. The property is set in delightful countryside ideal for walking. Although remote it is only a few miles from Coniston and Hawkshead. The nearby Grisdale Forest is great for bikes and access to Bowness and Windermere is very good with the ferry. The property is very cosy and is a great place to relax. July 2011.
