Rose and March Cottages are semi-detached cottages situated adjacent to the owner’s residence and paddock, each with its own separate entrance and parking areas. They are full of character, treating the visitor to the country life delights of open fires and wooden beams. Set in a pleasant rural location, one mile down a lane from the main road and 3.5 miles from the lovely historic village of Oughterard by the shores of Lough Corrib, the second largest lake in Ireland. Oughterard hosts shops, pubs, restaurants and two churches, and makes the ideal location to experience an Irish village, and a base from which to explore the surrounding, breathtaking scenery. The area is a renowned fishing location, its rivers and lakes sporting trout and salmon, attracting fishermen from all over the world to try their fishing skills. Famous local tourist spots are Aughanure Castle, Glengowla Mines, or the summer boat trips to Inchagoill Island and Cong, and the Bridgits Gardens all just a few minutes’ drive. Oughterard is rightfully known as the gateway to Connemara, an area of the most outstanding and unforgettable beauty. Whether it’s the quiet coastal drives or mountain valley roads, visitors are truly impressed and delight in seeking out remote beaches or quiet walking lanes. For the sea hardy, a visit to one of the coastal islands is a must - next stop is Newfoundland! Other day trips undertaken by most visitors to the cottages are to the world famous Cliffs of Moher in Co. Clare, and the delightful town of Westport and south Mayo. Also only 15 miles away is the old seafaring town of Galway, nestled at the head of Galway Bay. Known as the ’City of Tribes’, it is now a bustling place well worth a visit to sample its abundant shops, and cuisine to cater for all tastes.

  1. A superb location for a short break. We managed to tour Co Galway, Co Mayo and Co Clare and the aran islands in 4 days. Some spectacular scenery to see. The village where the cottage was also offered great pubs with good food, drink and live traditional music. Sept 2012.
  2. Rose Cottage was cosy and comfortable. It was reasonably handy to Oughterard where the pubs and restaurants were adequate. It provided a reasonable starting point to visit the Connemara area - although as Galway was very busy with the Volvo Boat event we almost always headed north and west. Unfortunately the mist and rain meant on several days the otherwise spectacular coastal and mountain scenery were totally obscured. We really liked Achill Island (Keem Bay very beautiful in the sun!), Cong village, drives along Loughs Corrib, Mask, Inagh, Derryclare and Doo. A very good quality and value golf course at Oughterard. June 2012.

  6. Rose Cottage is a beautiful home from home. The cottage was spotlessly clean and well equipped. Mrs Walsh was extremely welcoming. I would recommend Rose Cottage as the perfect base to visit Connemara, Galway and surrounding areas. Aug 2011.
  7. There is plenty to do with in easy reach of this cottage. A trip to Conammara with its spectacular scenery is a must. The cottage was excellent and very cosy. The owners friendly and helpfull. As on all our visits to Ireland we had a very warm welcome where ever we went. July 2011.
  8. Rose Cottage is a beautifully presented two-story terrace in Stretton-on-Fosse. It is centrally located in the Cotswolds and gave us a perfect base for touring the region. We were a couple on holidays and the cottage had everything we could ask for. We had a ball. Oct 2010.
