Peacefully located, with their own separate galleried entrance, these two delightful holiday cottages have been tastefully converted from a former barn. Backing onto the owner’s working farm the holiday homes are a lovely mix of original character combined with modern living facilities. The natural beauty of the Lake District lies on the doorstep, with the popular Lakeland market town of Keswick 25 minutes away and Cockermouth, 20 minutes. Penrith and the beautiful Eden Valley are a few minutes further, while Silloth and the Solway Coast, 10 miles, is well known for its golf courses. Carlisle is within a 20 minute drive, with historic Hadrian’s Wall and Scotland a little further. The properties have storage for bikes, and there are local cycle routes and footpaths, interesting castles and historic sites to explore, plus numerous pretty villages and market towns. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. Separate toilet. First floor: 3 bedrooms: 1 double with en-suite bathroom with shower over bath and toilet, 1 twin with en-suite shower room and toilet, 1 bunk (L-shaped, with limited space) with en-suite shower room and toilet.

  1. Lovely property which was spotlessly clean and great to have every bedroom en-suite. Our four year old was delighted to have her own loo! Really warm welcome too from Elaine who welcomed us with a plate of home made scones. The temperature outside was at or around freezing for much of our weeks stay, so it was great to find the property was nice and warm and had a wood burner. The location, whilst not actually in the Lake District National Park was close enough that we visited Keswick, Windermere, Ullswater, Ennerdale, Wastwater - indeed seemingly most of the Lake District! It was also ideally placed for visiting Carlisle - and Scotland (which we visited for lunch!). We were also delighted to find one of Cumbria’s largest indoor play centres just a couple of miles away in Wigton which our 2 and 4 year old children greatly enjoyed. Overall, a lovely break, and top marks to the owners for such a warm welcome! Feb 2012.
  2. A hidden gem in lovely location near the North Lakes which was cosy,comfortable and spotlessly clean. The on-suites in all bedrooms was a lovely bonus and the owner very attentive and welcoming. Oct 2011.
  3. Although the cottage was just outside of the lakes, it was very easy to drive to all areas of the district. Did not realise we were on a working farm as the area was very quiet. The cottage was of excellent standard, very clean and comfortable and superbly equipped. The owner had supplied lots of free little extras, i.e. flowers, home baked scones, tea, coffee, fresh milk and even washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, hand soap and cleaning products. This was the best self catering accommodation we have stayed in and far exceeded our expectations. Thank you. Aug 2011.

  6. This was a very nice place to stay. It was very clean, very well appointed and with the exception of the smallest bedroom, spacious. Having a bathroom attached to each bedroom was a particularly attractive feature. The owners were charming hosts. We were ambivalent about the location. On the one hand it was very pleasant to be on a working farm with a herd of cows in the field opposite and the railway on the other side of the field. Wigton is just the right distance away. On the other hand it was about half an hour from the National Park which is a little bit far. Having said that we got used to it very quickly. An advantage is the relative proximity of the coast. All round we had a very pleasant time and would recommend it to friends, especially those with children who can roam reasonably freely without being at risk. April 2011.
  7. Here is Alexander’s view (aged 9). There was a big garden to play in, and there were cows and I stroked one of the cows and it licked me. It’s tongue felt hairy and dry. I went for a bike ride with my dad at 7:30am which was fantastic. The showers were really fancy I had my own shower and room. April 2011.
