These four holiday properties lie just 5 miles from the thriving market town of Kendal, which is steeped in history and offers shops, restaurants, indoor leisure centre and theatre. Bannisdale (ref 14969) and Borrowdale (ref 28528) are detached, Scandinavian-design holiday chalets and Farmhouse (ref 27300) is a detached holiday property with a lovely private garden. Riverside (ref NP2103) is a stone-built former bobbin mill, which was converted into three holiday apartments. They are discreetly situated in a tranquil setting amidst 24 acres of privately owned hill land sloping down to the river with its tumbling waters enjoying an abundance of wildlife with buzzards and herons. Beautiful walks abound on nearby Bannisdale, Potter Fell and Haweswater. Although the valley is very secluded, Windermere, with its lake, is 9 miles to the west and the Yorkshire Dales National Park is 13 miles to the east, making these cottages an ideal touring base. The valley is very peaceful and offers spectacular scenery, and no holiday would be complete without the gentle walk to the valley top at Sadgill. The properties sit alongside the River Sprint, which provides ½ mile of private river for salmon and trout fishing available 15th March to 31st October, and there is also trout fishing on the small Cocks Close Lake at £10 per day (Environment Agency licence for all types of fishing required). There is an information sheet in the cottage for further guidance on the rules of fishing in the Lake District. Shop 5 miles, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

NSH and electricity £10per week May-September, £15per week October-April. Cot. High chair. Garden furniture. Ample parking. Natural water supply from spring.

All properties: Bed linen and towels included. DVD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Shared laundry room with washer/dryer and payphone. Shared natural grounds. Barbecue. NB: Grounds have drops and slope to river, 20 yards. Fishing lake in grounds.

This cottage is excellent for someone looking for peace and solitude, with plenty of great walks, and some nice pubs in the vicinity - I can recommend the Punch BowlInn at Crosthwaite and the Watermill Inn at Ings. For details of good walks, get a copy of "Good walk, good pub" from the Visitor Centre at Windermere. April 2012.

  8. Clean and comfortable; just right for days out in muddy boots etc as we wouldn’t want to worry about messing anything. Bed very comfortable. Only slight niggle as shower could have been hotter, but the location made up for this. If there had been room for a bath that would have been great, especially after long walks! Aug 2009.
