Property Description

In a ‘picture postcard’ setting beside the River Skirfare, in the very heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, stands this spacious detached cottage. Riverdale is beautifully furnished and has landscaped gardens, perfect for moon-lit barbecues, that blend into extensive 6-acre grounds which provide total seclusion for guests, making this the ideal rural retreat from which to escape the pressures of modern day life. Stunning views over river and dale can be admired from many of the rooms, and walks beckon from the doorstep, whether it be a gentle stroll along the river bank or a bracing hike over the fells. Close by lies the village of Kilnsey, with its unusual glacially sculptured overhang of rock (Kilnsey Crag), which proves popular with climbers. The National Park information point at Kilnsey Park provides information on the Crag and the surrounding area, whilst a trout farm offers a wealth of interest for families with its conservation and nature trail, trout viewing and feeding areas, as well as fly fishing on two lakes. Geared for children as well, there is a fun-fishing area for the under twelves and an adventure playground. With an estate shop, restaurant and coffee shop on-site, a complete day out can be planned in conjunction with pony trekking at Conistone. Beyond Kilnsey, stunning scenery and wonderful views can be savoured at Littondale, where Pen-y-ghent looms in the background, and idyllic Arncliffe with its village green, church and pub is only a 20-minute walk along the river and proves a popular refreshment point for walkers. West of Wharfedale, the limestone features of Malhamdale attract many visitors – Malham Cove, Malham Tarn and Gordale Scar acting as the magnets. Consisting of a sheer escarpment, crowned by a fractured pavement, there are also waterfalls and dry valleys to take in whilst walking in this awe-inspiring area. The traditional market towns of Skipton (with its well-preserved medieval castle) and Hawes (with Wensleydale Creamery and Ropemakers Museum) both make for pleasant days out. Grassington is a popular local village, easily accessible from Riverdale at only 8 miles, making a pleasant bike ride. Shop 4 miles, pub 1½ miles.

This property is close to the 2014 Tour de France route, come and experience the spectacular scenery for yourself and follow in the trail of some true cycling legends.

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Really lovely comfortable cottage a great place for all our family to get together. We have rebooked already! Sept 2012.
  2. The cottage is beautifully furnished and is equipped well beyond the basic necessities - a real home from home. Whatever we needed we found (thermos, blister plasters ... - the owners just ask that you replace what you use, including food from the freezer). We spent the whole week in the area near the cottage; there is beautiful countryside for walking. It is wonderfully peaceful and allowed us to recover from our busy urban lives. July 2012.
  3. This is a delightful setting and a very comfortable cottage - a real "home from home". The fixtures and the kitchen equipment whilst not being luxurious are good quality, and provide pretty much what you need. June 2012.
  4. We have spent years looking for the perfect cottage - this was it. The whole family (3 generations) loved it. The only down side was getting there along the narrow roads, but once there the car stayed put and the children climbed every hill they could find. We love the dales but we love them even more now. Thank you! Our year ended on a high! Sept 2011.
  5. A most comfortable cottage in an incredibly beautiful position. We woke to the sound of curlew, oyster catcher and cuckoo to the green surrounding fields with sheep and rabbits. Excellent walks from the door and throughout Littondale. June 2011.
  6. Property in wonderful setting with fantastic views from all rooms, except smallest bedroom. Ideal for two families with split accommodation and bathrooms. Clean, warm CH + logs + coal + aga, welcoming (bottle of wine). Tesco delivered to the kitchen, quiet, rarely used lane. Just the sound of the stream. Our age group was 5-86 years, all loved it. Close to sights of Dales - Malham Tarn/Gordale Scar/Limestone Pavement (walked 7.5 miles). Kettlewell (walked from cottage 2 miles) and lovely drives to Hawes, Ingleton and Bolton Abbey. Also made it to Harrogate - to Betty’s. Friendly owner. Oct 2010.
  7. We were expecting it to be very good based on your rating on the website, but it was even better than we had expected. Absolutely fantastic. Aug 2010.
  8. The property was clean, well furnished and well equipped. July 2010.
  9. Everything about this property is outstanding. The furnishings are lovely and comfortable. The bedding is deluxe. Riverdale does not feel like a rental but like a cherished home, and the location is perfect...private, pastoral yet not too far from the sights and the shops. This is one of the best cottages we have ever rented! June 2010.
  10. Spacious, clean, everything needed in cottage. Situation excellent - peaceful with wonderful views. June 2010.
  11. The property was nicely decorated and furnished. Fully equipped kitchen. Books and games provided for children and adults. Superbly situated. May 2010.
  12. Excellent property, very comfortable, everthing you could ask for. April 2010.
  13. Very friendly owners, lovely house in a wonderful setting. Sept 2008.
  14. A perfect cottage for getting away from it all. Spectacular views from all windows. Beautifully furnished and the cottage is equipped for every possible need. We can see why some families return to this cottage year after year! July 2008.
  15. This was our fourth visit to Riverdale, it is an excellent property, everything you could ask for really. The owners are very friendly and helpful. I am sure we will return a fifth time! April 2008.
  16. Riverdale is a special place, set in the most idyllic location and the interior is superb. The owners are extremely thoughtful and helpful. April 2007.
  17. Well presented and well equipped, it lacked nothing to mar the enjoyment of the holiday. The owners could not have been more friendly and helpful. The setting of this cottage is fantastic and an ideal centre for touring the Dales. May 2007.
