Property Description

Set in a secluded position high in the Mendips above Cheddar Gorge and just 3 miles from Cheddar, these three attractive barn conversions make an excellent base for walkers and nature lovers. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is rich in bird and wildlife, including badgers and deer (which visit the farm). Animals on the farm include calves, pygmy goats, alpacas and guinea pigs. Nature trails criss-cross the surrounding hills, easily accessible from the farm, and the whole area is one of immense historical and geological interest.
Among the many places of interest to visit are Wells cathedral in England’s smallest city, Glastonbury Tor, the caves at Cheddar and Wookey, Longleat and several NT properties including Montacute House and Stourhead and King John’s Hunting Lodge in pretty Axbridge. Excellent beaches and seaside entertainment can be enjoyed at Weston Super Mare and Brean, and there are many charming villages to be explored, along with the rugged landscape of Exmoor National Park, famous for the native ponies. The Georgian Heritage city of Bath is easily reached with its beautiful architecture, Roman Baths, Abbey and fine selection of shops and restaurants. Several golf clubs are available locally together with horse riding, coarse fishing and trout fishing at Chew Valley and Blagdon Lakes. Very good local inns and places to eat.

All on one floor: Spacious, open-plan sitting-room with kitchen area, breakfast bar at one end and electric log-effect fire. Double bedroom with 5ft bed. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. The quality of the property exceeded all expectations. We liked the attention to detail. The property was very well equipped. The owners were very friendly and helpful with local information, but never intrusive. We enjoyed the Alpacca shearing, which was quite an experience, and the sheep dogs Billy and Sid. A lovely quite country location but without total isolation. Well located we had easy access to several interesting places for country walks or towns to visit. May 2012.
  2. Very well-located, well-equipped and quiet property with extremely helpful owners. Thoroughly recommended. April 2012.
  3. The lovely stone built Ramscliff Cottage, is set in a small enclave of holiday cottages as well as the owners own home. The owners, Chris and Sue are a most charming couple who could not have done more to make our stay such a super time. Their two dogs are extremely friendly towards both human and pet guests. All in all an excellent place to stay. We will most certainly return. April 2012.
  4. A converted barn in a small farm complex. Fitted out to a good modern standard. High position on the Mendips with a long driveway off the Road coming up through the Gorge. Fairly remote position but ideal for touring and walking. Also rock climbing in the Gorge. Sept 2011.
  5. Cottage lovely, The hosts were really friendly but not intrusive. Had a fabulous time and the location is great perfect for a base to many tourist locations. Would definitely recommend. Aug 2011.

  18. This accommodation had everything you could possibly want, was immaculate in every way and the owner was very helpful but not over fussy. June 2009.
  19. The cottage was scrupulously clean. The owners were a delight and very friendly. The location of the property was magnificent. There was everything we needed in the cottage. We have rarely had a more relaxing holiday and, if it rained, as it did one day we were quite happy to stay in the cottage and read. This is not something you can do at a B&B. Similarly in a cottage like this there is no pressure to be up at a certain time for breakfast. May 2009.
  20. The cottage was superlatively equipped. May 2009.
