These 6 holiday apartments (refs 29121, 29122, 29123, 29124, 29125 and 29126) offer the perfect holiday base for family or friends to get together. A short walk is Preston Sands, a great family beach, where you can sunbathe, swim or grab a fishing net and explore the rock pools at low tide. Along the back of the beach there’s a promenade lined with colourful beach huts, where you can hire one for the day. On the corner of a quiet cul-de-sac and main road, you will find a parade of shops, cafes and restaurants all on your doorstep. Paignton has a wide range of great activities for children of all ages, and the central green is home to a multiplex cinema, crazy golf and the pier with rides and amusements. The Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway departs from the centre of town, while Paignton Zoo is a mile or so from the centre. Living Coasts, Torquay’s award-winning coastal zoo, is home to a magnificent array of marine life from around the world and is set in a state of the art naturalistic environment. The true story of Agatha Christie’s life is every bit as intriguing and fascinating as her books, and nowhere can you get closer to her legacy than on the English Riviera. Christie was born in Torquay, and spent many of the most important chapters of her life here, as well as using real places in the area as settings for her murder mysteries. Dartmoor is on the doorstep, with its stunning scenery and heather clad rocky tors and ponies, and is a walkers’ paradise at any time of year. Horse riding, climbing, letterboxing, geo-caching or kayaking are also available. Close by visit Babbacombe Model Village and Babbacombe Cliff Railway. Take a boat trip to Brixham from Torquay harbour or discover Agatha Christie’s summer house at Galmpton. Further afield is Plymouth, 25 miles, with its Hoe, Barbican and National Marine Aquarium, whilst the Eden Project (approximately 1½ hours’ drive) is a fabulous day out. Exeter has a magnificent cathedral and quay, whilst a boat trip can be taken up the river to two stunning pubs. Take a walk along the South West Coastal Path which runs along the entire length of the Jurassic Coast and offers walkers stunning views. From the coastal path you can experience the drama of sheer cliff faces, take in the wonderful towns of Beer or Budleigh Salterton, a tranquil and historic seaside town which nestles on the edge of a pebble beach. Visit Seaton, with its famous trams, or Sidmouth, which still has a unique charm and has captivated thousands of holidaymakers. Beach 500 yards. Shop and restaurant 50 yards, pub 500 yards.
