Property Description

Situated on the edge of the medieval Bastide town of Monségur, this impressive, stone built house has views across a little valley to the town. It stands in a garden of mature trees and shrubs with a wisteria-covered pergola offering a delightful place to eat by the private swimming pool. The spacious accommodation is furnished in traditional French style, and adjoins a small, independent apartment occupied by the helpful owner. The small historic town of Monségur, with its central arcaded square and market place, has pavement cafés and restaurants as well as summer music and cultural events for all ages. This peaceful rural area has many historic towns and vineyards to visit between the rivers Garonne and Dordogne, and a little further is the fascinating city of Bordeaux.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Great situation, comfortable and friendly locals. Additional toilet and proper shower would enhance accommodation significantly. Sept 2012.
  2. Warm welcome by Mme Boudey, beautiful very spacious traditional property on the edge of the village with good amenities. Pool and garden are terrific. Easy drive from Bordeaux. June 2012.
  3. This was a fabulous property. It was great to stay in a beautiful, traditional property with a lovely pool, secluded garden and also to be within walking distance of a beautiful village with shops, bars and restaurants. We had wonderful weather which added to our enjoyment! The only criticism I can come up with is that the double bed in the main bedroom was rather uncomfortable! July 2011.
  4. Better than we thought it looked in the brochure. Owner very nice, bottle of wine on arrival and homemade plum tart half way through the week! Aug 2010.
  5. The house has an old fashioned but homely feel (on account of it being owner occupied for much of the year). Personally I much prefer this to the cheap "Ikea" style of a lot of holiday lets. It was really spacious and comfortable and we enjoyed "playing house" in France. The pool was fantastic and we loved the garden with its exotic apricot and nut trees! Mme Boudey was absolutely charming and greeted us with a home-made apple pie and chilled wine. She was really unobtrusive the rest of the time. Aug 2010.
  6. Very pretty garden and lovely pool. Great location near to shops and very pretty town. July 2010.
  7. The house is located very close to the center of the city but is also located far enough to be in a quiet place! The garden is beautiful and the owner, is very helpful and discrete. July 2010.
  8. Super house with a fabulous garden and an excellent pool. It is worth emphaising that, although the property is very secluded, it is only 3 minutes walk from Monsegur with its cafe/bars, shops and a real community spirit. June 2010.
  9. Lovely property, excellent gardens and very friendly helpful owner. June 2010.
  10. An elegant older property with a mix of original tiled floors & the more modern tongue & groove light wood floors. Kitchen added at the back. Lovely lounge & (original family) dining room, featuring French terrestrial TV only. Property unsuitable for anyone who has difficulty climbing stairs, as these are quite steep up to 1st floor & varnished. Pleasant bedrooms although light sleepers should be aware that 2 out of 3 face the front and hence the roadway. The access to the village centre is superb - barely 300 metres walk & you are in the Bastide (original 13th/14th century) square part with cafes, bakers & a small general shop. For jaunts further afield, the property is 34 miles or 50 minutes by car south-west of Bergerac, 40 miles or 65 mins from the park & ride for the Bordeaux Line A tram at Lormont-La Buttiniere. Midweek popular haunts for tourists such as Duras & Eymet are also pretty close, between 10 & 25 mins drive. May 2010.
  11. A beautiful house, garden and pool only a few minutes walk from a village supplying all we needed. MMe Boudey was available and helpful but not intrusive so that the large garden and pool felt as though it belonged to us! Though it was possible to visit other larger villages we treasured the seclusion and small village aspects of the holiday. Some lovely country walks and local produce available at the Friday market. Highly recomended. June 2009.
  12. We received a very warm welcome and felt right at home. The pool was very welcome on the hot days and the lovely garden provided lots of shade and colour. The house itself has plenty of room and the bedrooms are spacious and have plenty of cupboard space. All in all just right for a relaxing holiday and handy for all amenities. July 2008.
  13. Lovely, cool, spacious house with beautiful garden and pool. Elegant poolside parasol and furntire, several little tables to choose from for breakfast and a lovely arbour to dine under in the warm evenings. Good comfy beds and excellent bathroom and other facilities. Only a very few minutes’ stroll from the town square in Monsegur - this proximity wasn’t clear from the descriptions and added a lot to the enjoyment as Monsegur’s a lovely little place. The owner delighted - prepared to look after you as much or as little as you wish. She welcomes us with wine, encouraged us to pick fresh tomatoes from the plants and made us canales - a traditional Bordeaux treat. Really great place - we were very lucky with the weather too! I think the website really rather undersells this lovely place - it could afford to be more expansive perhaps? Sept 2007.
  14. There was not really any detail of the gardens which turned out to be wonderfully spacious, a wonderful setting with fantastic pool area. June 2006.
