Property Description

"In rich rolling acres of natural grounds – just a riverside walk from the beach and sea . . ."

Just a mile or so from the beach and picturesque harbour at Lyme Regis, this attractive cluster of individually owned holiday cottages enjoys a peaceful setting in an area of exceptional natural beauty. Skilfully converted from a range of lovely old stone barns, they are surrounded by acres of pastures with abundant wildlife, including deer and badgers. Fitted and furnished to comfortable standards throughout, each holiday cottage is independently owned and has its own sunny patio at the front with peaceful and uninterrupted views over a picturesque pond and the countryside beyond. A lovely riverside walk leads to historic Lyme Regis, passing through wonderful countryside with no roads to mar the views. The rolling farmland scenery is easily enjoyed via the 28-mile network of local footpaths and bridleways, including the World Heritage Dorset Coastal Path (½ mile) and its spectacular Jurassic coast.
Accessible within 4 minutes by car or via a walk over fields and along the riverbank, Lyme Regis is one of England’s most memorable small towns. It is famous as the setting for both the story and film of The French Lieutenant’s Woman, with its harbour bright with boats, streets of elegant colour-washed buildings, lofty cliffs and a great sweep of sea. Inns, restaurants and a choice of shops can be found amongst the town’s attractive jumble of narrow streets, and it is a notable water sports centre. Motor boats can be hired, and there are fishing trips, a sailing school and club, and a wind-surfing school. There is also a sports complex at Axminster (4 miles) which offers swimming and other facilities. For nature lovers, the area has some of the most diverse scenery in the country: Lyme Bay sweeps round from the National Nature Reserve on the Dowlands Cliffs in an uninterrupted arc along the huge bank of shingle that is Chesil Beach, all the way to the limestone slab of the Isle of Portland. The 626-ft Golden Cap, is a breathtaking viewpoint and part of a lovely 2,000-acre NT estate, it is the highest point on England’s south coast, which is a World Heritage Site. An easy drive to Bridport, Honiton, Sidmouth, Exeter and Dorchester. For families there are many lovely beaches close at hand, and a theme park (Crealy Park) near Exeter. Lyme Regis golf course is within half a mile and visitors are welcome to use the golf course, or to simply visit their bar and restaurant. Each cottage has a comprehensive information folder giving details of local pubs, restaurants, shops, walks, excursions and includes many interesting facts about Lyme Regis and finding fossils along the Jurassic coast. Shops 1 mile.

Five easy steps to entrance of this cottage, which accommodates a larger family. Open-plan living/dining room and fitted galley-style kitchen area with tiled floor. Conservatory with electric wood-burning stove and superb country views. Double bedroom with additional single bed (for +1). Shower room with double shower cubicle and toilet. First floor: Twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower attachment and toilet. Single bedroom.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Excellent location. Quiet. Lots of birdlife on the birdfeeders for armchair bird enthusiasts. August 2012.
  2. Fantastic cottage in a lovely location, beautiful views with easy access to the beach. We loved the walk following the River lyme to the sea. Great for the children with lots of lambs and wild life to see. June 2012.
  3. A cottage that is a home. Our second visit and a fab week was had by all 3 of us dad being in his 90th year. Close by are some quiet bays or more lively seaside towns what ever suits. The cottage is in such a lovely spot you wont want to leave. The wild life was great. To sit in the conservatory morning and night and see the variety is amazing, we had ducks tapping at the door pheasants, woodpeckers, rabbits and lots more. Thanks for a great relaxing week. May 2012.
  4. This is a well equipped cottage, providing exactly what was listed in the brochure. The conservatory provided a useful hide for observing nature as well as relaxing surroundings. The location was in the country, with walks from the doorstep. At the same time it provided speedy access by foot and car to Lyme Regis. Plenty of pleasant pubs in the local area to eat in with a wide variety of food. May 2012.
  5. On arrival, the house was well presented. The cottage was warm, friendly, well equipped and blessed with a beautiful panoramic view from the conservatory. The walk through the fields and alongside the brook provide an attractive way into the town. The walk back is a bit challenging (steep hill). In spite of the weather, the house contributed to a super holiday. April 2012.
  6. This was such a lovely holiday and the accommodation and location was amazing! Will be returning agian and will be telling all our friends and family about this amazing place! April 2012.
  7. We had a fantastic stay, we classed the cottage as an amazing corner of Lyme Regis to sit back, relax and enjoy the views. You can reach many great places by car, enjoy some walks from the front door step, or just watch the world go by in the conservatory. Highly recommend the cottage and will be going back. March 2012.
  8. The location and cleanliness were outstanding and the layout suited our family group. Six adults would have found it rather small and for the grading, we would expect a dishwasher. We felt a photo of the kitchen area would have presented a more honest view of the shortcomings of this rather small area. The conservatory is an exceptional feature. These comments are intended to be helpful and in no way detracted from a lovely property in which we spent a very successful and enjoyable holiday. March 2012.
  9. This comfortable and very well equipped cottage has a beautiful view down the valley from its conservatory - we spent all our time here when in the cottage. If you enjoy walking there is lots to be had from the cottage itself and Lyme Regis is only a short walk or very short drive away. The cottage accommodated three of us very well (one couple, one single) but could easily take more. We will probably hire it again! Feb 2012.
  10. Well equipped cottage in a beautiful location with fantastic views across the Dorset hills! Aug 2011.
  11. Very comfortable, well appointed cottage, in peaceful location. Great for bird watching and local wildlife. Short distance to town (by car) - all local amenities. Good choice of ’eateries’ within a few miles in any direction. Aug 2011.
  12. Poiret Cottage at Lyme Regis was idyllic. While the weather was not so good on most days, the setting of the cottage even made staying in during the worst of the rain enjoyable. Our second cottage at Abbotsbury was equally attractively placed. Both sets of owners were very helpful and accommodating when problems, often minor ones occurred. We would happily return to both cottages in the future. March 2011.
  13. Very peaceful location, comfortable and roomy cottage with lovely conservatory and views. Bit cold sometimes but it was early in the year. Feb 2011.
  14. Comfortable beds, good quality linen, excellent views. Feb 2011.
  15. Very warm, welcoming and clean and tidy. Owners were very nice too. Nov 2010.
  16. Good condition, excellent views and location. Oct 2010.
  17. The views fantastic, cottage was very clean, warm and well furnished. The walk downhill across the fields to Lyme Regis and the climb back up well worth the effort. Oct 2010.
  18. It suited our needs, we were all comfortable and loved the scenery. The peace and quiet is lovely. Oct 2010.
  19. Great location, wonderful view from the conservatory, just a perfect spot. Sept 2010.
  20. It had an excellent conservatory with stunning views. Aug 2010.
