If you are looking for a tranquil, relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle then this is the place for you. Coombe House Cottages (refs W1400, W1497 and W1498) are situated in a designated AONB in the heart of rural Devon, situated in a sheltered south facing valley off the beaten track and surrounded by rolling meadows and woodland. The abundance of wildlife is fabulous, and the lawns and lake to the front are very pretty in the summer with brightly flowering azaleas and rhododendrons. Each property has its own trestle table for al fresco dining in the sunshine. The cosy cottages have been converted from original stone farm barns and retain much original character. The delight of holidaying here is the quietness of the place. This little complex of properties is set in 33 acres of beautiful countryside and stands at the head of a broad valley. Across from Coombe House (ref W42221) is a delightful natural pond, thriving with wildlife including butterflies and dragonflies. The cottages are positioned to the rear of Coombe House and each offers very well appointed accommodation. The owner places fresh flowers in each property and guests can buy fresh herbs and vegetables from the owner (seasonal), as well as flowers, as and when available. The complex lies within 4 miles of Dartmoor National Park and within easy reach of some of the cleanest beaches in England (Bigbury and Blackpool Sands). The coastal paths offer superb walks and magnificent scenery. There are also many Green Lane walks, one of which runs through part of the estate. Several National Trust properties and gardens are nearby. Totnes and Dartmouth with their award-winning restaurants are a short distance away. The beautiful gardens feature a lake, a stream and small pond where wildlife abounds. As you stroll around the gardens you will probably encounter moorhens, pheasants or ducks, and if you take an evening walk in the woods you may catch a glimpse of a badger, fox or deer. Bird life is varied, look out for buzzards, sparrowhawks, woodpeckers and owls. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

NB: Entrance to the property is on the first floor and access is over a bridge. 2 streams and lake in grounds.

  1. The location is outstandingly beautiful. The only way of reaching the place, though, involves some stretches of high-walled single file road which adds a certain anxiety to coming and going. That said, the owners and their dog Oscar are delightful and we really enjoyed our stay. The quiet and seclusion and the beautiful valley it is set in and pond ion front of the main house all help it to be an outstanding place. Aug 2011.
  2. Light and airy, and with good views. Nice welcome with wine and essentials. All mod cons and heating for the cold nights and mornings on our visit in October. All safety issues thought out, including a gate to the down stairs if young children about. Disappointed there was no map for the local roads - we got lost 3 times but managed to get back in the end.   3. This is the 2nd cottage we have used from yourselves and both occasions have found the cottage to be fantastic. We use the cottage as a base and go off sightseeing during the day and settled our baby in for the evening while we sat and watched dvd’s, a fantastic chillout time for both myself and my husband as well as my parents, so all in all a fantastic time. April 2009.
  4. Owl’s Perch was a lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings - ideal for a really relaxing getaway. There were nice walks in the grounds and lots of wildlife to watch. There were also lots of things to see and do in the area. We’d definitely go back for another holiday. May 2008.

  6. From someone in the hotel business we found Owls Perch just what we wanted, with two bathrooms we were perfectly relaxed and our friends from Italy really enjoyed themselves and I think may be planning to return with other friends. A lovely quiet and peaceful holiday. Nov 2008.
  7. The cottage was well presented with all mod cons required for a well earned break. The owners were welcoming and helpful on arrival also if further assistance was required. Owl’s perch is suitable for those less able due to a bedroom on the same level as the main facilities and also a wet room next to it. Dec 2007.
