Property Description

With lovely views over the South Downs from its first floor living room, this tastefully refurbished property lies just 4 miles from the coast. Attached to the owners’ home and set well back from the road, it is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The high vaulted ceiling gives a light and airy feel, while outside is a secluded patio and garden shared with the owners. The area offers many scenic walks, bird-watching, riding, cycling and fishing. In the village is Monk’s House (NT), former home of Virginia Woolf. Lewes, with its castle, 3 miles. Newhaven (with day trips to France), 5 miles. Brighton, with its charming blend of seaside attractions is a short drive away. Shops 4 miles. Pub 200 yards.

Bathroom with power shower over bath and toilet. First floor: Living room with sofa-bed (for +2), French doors and views over South Downs. Shaker-style kitchen/dining room with wooden floor and ladder-style steps up to galleried area. Double bedroom with 5ft bed and sloping ceiling.

  2. Idealy situated between Lewes and Newhaven, with easy access to Eastbourne. Rodmell village with all its connections to Virginia Woolf plus Charleston Farmhouse, Berwick and Firle churches nearby complete the Bloomsbury picture. Loved the quirky cottage at Ouseide. Oct 2011.

  8. The cottage is situated in an area of natural beauty and well positioned for easy access to many of East Sussex’s attractions. The cottage had a lot of character, beautiful views over the South Downs,a lovely garden with table, chairs and parasol,well-balanced, quite spacious rooms and a very imaginative use of the space available. We particularly liked being able to have friends stay on the sofa bed in the lounge; also the sleeping accommodation available on the galleried area above the kitchen.The kitchen was very well-equipped, cooker easy to use and plenty of room for 4 people to eat at the table. I particularly enjoyed the comprehensive books about the Bloomsbury Set. Great reading! July 2009.
  9. Very comfortable accommodation - ideal for a couple. Overall design is excellent and the village of Rodmell proved to interesting in its own right as well as being an ideal jumping off spot. There being a bust stop right on the doorstep proves very useful for those of us with bus passes. April 2009.
  10. Rodmell is an ideal location for exploring the South Downs. Accommodation was of a good modern standard, very comfortable with lovely views of the South Downs from the back of the property. May 2009.

  13. This a lovely property - cleverly designed and beautifully appointed. We felt at home immediately. The first floor accommodation provides lovely views of the Sussex landscape and the owners’ gardens. The village of Rodmell is a delight with lovely walks nearby and an excellent local pub. Handy for Lewes, Glyndebourne and the South Downs Way we would strongly recommend this property for a quiet week away from it all. June 2008.
